Similar era and type of book are Desmond Bagley, 10 or so of his around to read.
I will be trying this series soon.... thanks.
If you were expecting a 'series '(a la Reacher), I suspect you were disappointed...

The books are totally stand alone, but I was a big fan back in the late '70s/early '80s (his heyday, I think).

Has anyone mentioned Michael Conelly's Bosch books? Great detective novels, with shades of Ed McBain's 87th Precinct novels from way back.

Does anyone think Lee Child Jack Reacher series is now actually quite weak - there are countless new authors and stories/thrillers which are in an utterly different league when it comes to plot development characters etc?

So the constituency voted 58.8% for Tory, labour 30.2% Lib Dem’s 7.5%

I’m at a loss how an MP can defect to the 3rd placed part in the constituency with over 51.1% MORE than Lib Dem’s.

I’d vote for Jack over that lot!

Look's like Welshy's pissed again. You'd think he would sober up before he starts pressing these computer keys, surely he's learned his lesson by now?

Discussed already but try the Scott Mariani Ben Hope and James Barrington Paul Richter series. If you like Reacher and Milton, you’ll like those. And Stephen Leather’s Spider Sheppard of course.....

LJ Ross: DCI Ryan books are on unlimited. Rather enjoyed those, although I’m from the region which adds interest. No ex-special forces superheroes though hehe

Just read my first Joe Pickett and enjoyed it.

I have collected all the Michael Connolly books over the last 3 years but have been reading them too quickly, just started The Black Box but am trying to stretch them out a bit so need him to write some more quickly.

Robert Crais with his Elvis Cole character is worth a look, so is Andrew Gross. He has co written a few with James Patterson but his stand alone are better.

Ahh Elvis Cole they were good, sadly read

Also Jack Noble although they weren't as good. Will check for Andrew Gross

John Sandford's 'Prey' stories about Lucas Davenport tie in nicely with his series on Virgil Flowers and he has a few in other tales too which are all very good stories.

Got me buying them second hand so I can pick one up for a re-read too.

C.J box is my favourite action detective series, Joe Pickett rules! Yeah.

I was terribly disappointed with the last Reacher, if the one released at the end of this month disappoints too he is to be struck off my lists.

Did I mention Joe Pickett?

Impeccable stories.

So funny with the Joe Pickett books, went from book 1 being really not sure to absolutely hooked by about book 3, loved them and was genuinely a bit sad when I ran out

Read all the Reachers since killing floor, last few been bit disappointing,Ace Atkins,Glen Eric Hamilton, and if you can still find them for a darker side to American crime writing,Andrew H Vachs.
The classic Jim Thompson books worth a read too
