How many books do you own?
Discussion
I went to The Book Barn at the weekend whilst visiting my sister and wandered round picking out a book here and there. By the time I came to pay I'd an armful of 14 books, all at a pound each. It's a good thing (perhaps) that my sister lives 200 miles away or I'd be lugging home a boot load of books far more often - an A8 has a very large boot...
Total book count is currently in excess of 400 though at least that number were left behind ten years ago in a separation. I've tried to read e-books on my tablet but it's not the same, I need to feel paper - is that strange?

I had at least 3000 at one point, whole office lined with billys stacked double deep etc.
Then came a little earthquake. Even though the book cases were screwed to the wall I'd have been dead sat at my desk.. Took me 3 days to get back into the room..

So now I mostly have ebook, probably have about 200 real paper ones.

not at all - makes sense - there is something tangible about paper versions, including the feeling of knowing where you are in the book by the physical position - whereas on an e-reader, the book could finish next page, you have no idea! There is also something about a book which has had a history and been read and enjoyed by others... or is brand new and you are the first to open it and enjoy it...The_Doc said:

Around 15 per cent, or 5.1 million adults in England, can be described as "functionally illiterate". They would not pass an English GCSE and have literacy levels at or below those expected of an 11-year-old.
The plebs read red tops or get their news from Facebook. I say no moreA large proportion of the UK reads the football scores and the Sky EPG and that's it.

I'm just astonished you found 14 books at a pound each in the Book Barn - cheapest I've ever found anything I wanted was £2.50 I think! Not counting their 50p barn as I don't have the patience to root through there.Total book count is currently in excess of 400 though at least that number were left behind ten years ago in a separation. Every book in there, apart from those in their Darwin Room, was priced at £1. I totted up the cover prices when I got home, upwards of £150.
My mistake - I think we're talking about 2 different places. Astley Book Farm is the one I'm thinking of - always calling that the Book Barn as well. Guessing you're talking about Book Barn International. Still on my "to be visited" list. Flip Martian said:

This is the one I visited - my O/H and sister joked that they could leave me there for days and I'd be a very happy chappy:

Yeah I was perusing the site yesterday. We are down in Dorset at the weekend - just working out whether I can persuade wifey (who is driving me about at the moment) to head in that direction...prob not but worth a go. I'll tell her it has a good cafe...https://www.bookbarninternational.com
