I like Mythos too - but it's something you need to listen to again and again if you want to remember everything. biggrin

I find audiobooks a great cure for insomnia anyway smile
Mythos, or Stephen Fry reciting anything, a good example.

^^Steven Fry^^

Just getting into the complete Sherlock Holmes. Fairly obviously I have been aware of these books almost all my life, but haven't actually got around to reading them, so it's quite a joy to have Steven Fry do the heavy lifting for me - only on "The Sign of Four" but this is clearly going to be a joy over the coming weeks!!

I really enjoyed it, although I'm glad to have finally finished it. He's a superb narrator. Some of the stories are a bit weak but overall well worth the time.

Moved on to Hail Mary as suggested above - thanks for the recommendation, it's very good.

Kazuo Ishiguro's 'The Remains of the Day' read by Dominic West is a real treat. HIGHLY recommended.

(He obviously watched the film with Hopkins, Fox, Thompson & Grant before he read it, as I can see the characters in his interpretation).

ETA, If you liked the film you'll love this.

Hail Mary, the new story from Andy Weir.

Most enjoyable, if you liked The Martiannyou will this.
It’s terrific isn’t it?
Yes, in fact I prefer it to The Martian.
Thanks again for this recommendation, I thought it was superb and a story I shall listen to again. Wasn’t sure about the narrator at first but he really brought one of the characters to life.

Just an addendum: If I'd have listened to The Martian before Project Hail Mary, I would never had listened to the latter. IMO his latest is MILES better.

Just working through Hail Mary now. Enjoying it so far, Was a bit uncertain at the start but getting invested now. Previously I read the martian in old school format and felt that suited the log type chapters better.

I dont know if your looking for something similar or just general recommendations. Prior to Hail Mary I listened to Hunting Hitlers Nukes by damien lewis on reccomendation in the military history thread. sabotage operations in Norway, Has a bit of everything from the SOE, resistance groups, wilderness survival. the nuclear arms race. Really enjoyed it.

If there wasn't silly corona I would be planning a trip to Rjukan and the Hardangervidda.

I've listened to half a dozen Stephen King books. I do like his 'unfussy' writing style, but many of his plots are so out there, that they become totally unbelievable. I was pleased to hear that he'd written a non horror, but a thriller - 'Billy Summers'.

I'm about 2/3 the way through the near 17 hours and am loving it. It feels much more grown up (for want of a better expression), A very clever plot with some interesting twists.

It takes 30 minutes to get into the style of the narrator, but stick with him and you'll probably really like him. (Micky Doyle from Boadwalk Empire).

It's purposely slow and detailed, so if you're not a fan of that, you might have a problem.

Currently scoring 4.8/5 on Audible. Recommended.

I just finished Thunder Below! by Rear Admiral Eugene Fluckey. It is a fantastic story about his time in command of the USS Barb, a submarine in the Pacific theatre of WW2, and his approach to leadership and how he changed submarine warfare. It is utterly riveting.

I’m enjoying orphan x so far. I’ve also changed my passwords and fixed the lock on the garage.

I’m glad to be enjoying a thriller. As I’m always jealous of the sheer number of thrillers my partner chomps through, but I’ve never managed to get into them in paper form. But for some reason audio books are more enjoyable. I think it’s partly I can’t do the dramatic gravelly voices in my head. I do not sound like Batman.

I still prefer paper for more serious books I think. But it’s very enjoyable to enjoy a ‘trashy’ book, and feel like Audiobooks are helping with that.

Listened to all, then Hellbent again. Scot Brick's narration is fab. Disappointed in the last book.
