Well I finally finished it. It's not the book I'd have expected given his clear insightful manner in person (via YouTube, either in front of his class or debating one to one).
An awful lot of ground was gone over and rehashed again and again, there was a surprising amount of religious imagery given his 'common sense' approach and it wasn't clear whether he was just using it as an example or whether he actually believed it. Also some of his examples felt a little theoretical even though they were apparently factual.
Did I learn anything? Well, bits of it were interesting and I think I did, but nothing remotely life changing. I got more out of Dale Cargenie's 'How To Win Friends And Influence People' 30 years ago - but then maybe I simply had more to learn back then.
Overall, worth a read I think, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it.

I got about 3/4 of the way through and simply got bored.
A real shame as I have a lot of time for him when listening to him speak but this book seemed bloated. His attempt to get as much information/evidence in as possible to support his arguments was (IMVHO) to the detriment of the clarity and 'readability' of the chapters and the book as a whole.
I am disappoint.
He spouts a lot, and for some weird reason some people find in it what they want to find. esp if they can't be bothered to work out what /they/ already thought for themselves on any given issue his name might bob-up being attached-to.
He's neither particularly interesting, nor clear, nor coherent ...nor actually ...really worth listening to, at all. let alone bothering to un-pick.

Spend a few minutes on youtube and you will find the left hate him, all steams from a bill in Canada that would basically make miss-gendering someone a crime and compelled speech (it is a lot more complicated than that)
His Cathy Newman interview is stuff of legends.
Would that be the bill which he claimed the sky would fall down if enacted, everyone told him he was exaggerating and no it wouldn't, the threshold for hate speech within the Canadian human rights act is much higher than he claimed, the bill passed, became law and 4 years later the sky is still where it should be, and everyone who thought he was being a bit of an idiot and behaving like a spoilt brat was right. His Cathy Newman interview is stuff of legends.

I thought his book was rambling low quality nonsense TBH. I enjoyed his Cathy Newman interview and he's made some good points in some of his lectures, but I really don't see what all the fuss is about. I can certainly see why he would appeal to Christians struggling with nihilism, but as that's not me I view him as a bit of a waste of my time.
His main value seems to be as a foil to elements of the US left and thus, ironically, has become some kind of mascot for a lot of the nuttier right wing types.
