I work for Fifth Gear.
One of our current projects is to attempt 200mph in a modified Esprit.
Has anyone out there achieved a genuine 200mph in a car that cost them under £50k, or knows someone that has?
If so we'd like to hear from you.

This is a disgrace. I demand that 5th gear be renamed 'reverse gear', and stop pandering to the quite illogical wishes of idiot motorists who break the speed limit by 170mph.

They'd be better off biteing the bullit and calling Quafe and asking if they can buy a 'box. Then flog it afterwards and put the original back on.

Drop it out of a hercules travelling at 300 mph. That will guarantee the performance figures required, and you can even do it with a fiesta.

What about adamt's CTR, 50K can't be far off the s/h price.

A Cerb is the best way of doing this. It's what they should have started with. Doable for half the budget as well.

Try doubling/tripling it and you're closer I would guess.

Theres only 28 of them and if they havent appreciated I would be very suprised.

Thats what I'd be thinking too, although if it can't already do it, I'm not sure how tuneable a Ruf CTR would be?

Its been there and done that - Autocar managed a 0-200-0 test in it.

A CTR went for just over £60K not too long ago IIRC.

For teh performance that is an absolute bargain.

How much power, given an average drag factor do you need to break it is the only question mark over the theory below IMHO?
A standard 4.5 Cerbera knocking out say a real 360-380bhp wil do around 180 real mph. These can be had for sub £20K prices and they already have the relative light weight (1100Kgs), whihc can be reduced to sub 1000Kgs easily IMHO and a full roll cage, half way there me thinks .
Improving it's power, well as already said NoS is the cheapest way to go, so long as you have a sound engine to begion with.
'TVR Power', ask for Dom, would I imagine do a complete strip and rebuild for say £8-10K. Then throw a 200 squirt of NoS in , TVR Power can do/have done this too .
There is already a cerb out there which is making not far short of a true 400bhp standard which has a generous shot of NoS, 250 I believe .
If you are serious about the project I beleieve the Cerbera is the way to go, not forgetting even McLaren used the cerbera as the test mule for their SLR developement .

You can have a CTR spec car built for 50k (25k 3.3 turbo plus 25k mods). Search out ultra violent on the porsche forums.

I'd have thought that the Ultima forum would be your best bet!
