It would be an interesting reason for excluding someone - because your fuel smells funny!

Both Shell and Elf supply 102 octane fuel that is widely used by competitors with WRC and some Gp N rally cars without anyone objecting to it (it is fairly easy to tell!). I bet Steve Perez doesn't use Shell Optimax in his 05 Focus on BTRDA events.

I'm not saying they would be excluded because it "smelled funny", but it could give your fellow competitors, or the organisers grounds to either protest or selct you for fuel sampling and analysis. Then if it was found that the RON was >100, you would probably be excluded for breaching the regulations.

As for Steve Perez (or anyone else) running WRC cars on National events, they have to comply with the National Regulations which state "Pump Fuel". All they have to do is make sure the ECU is mapped for the grade of fuel thay are running on.[/quote]

In Germany they sell Ultimate 102 @ BP and ARAL Stations (BP is believed to have bought ARAL- the biggest fuel company there in '99 or so) also more expensive then normal SUPER PLUS (around 1,55 € )--wonder if this is any similar- as well as SHELL exchanged the OPTIMAX to a fuel called V-Power which claims to 100 OCTAN, however one of the biggest German car newspapapers did a rolling road trial with the Shell fuel and could not verify any power boosts...

Do you go to Germany much????? In Germany Aral sell Ultimate 100, which is 100RON. If you go onto the BP web site they seem to be quite open about the fact that they own the Aral brand. Shell Optimax is only available in the UK, elsewhere their premium product is branded as V-Power.

Just used it in the Lambo Gallardo (ilford) - cost £178 full tank!!!!

Must say - car is soo much smoother and much faster. To compare - it's like using normal 95 than using Optimax - Big difference.

The engine has even gone quieter.

Just had to see what the fuss was about...

I bet they saw you coming mate.

I serviced for a guy with a Group A EVO VII a few years back on a rally and remember him getting the rocket fuel sent down from Silverstone in drums, then to make it legally pump fuel (and keep the MSA/FIA etc quiet) we put a manual pump in the top and pumped it into the fuel tank.

I vaguely recall him saying the motion lotion cost circa £3/Litre, as he was rather pissed off we kept spilling it on the floor due to us the service crew getting high on the fumes.

Major thread recovery here. I searched PH but didn't come up with anything. So I turned to Google to double check the price and I found this thread.

My local BP has now started selling 102. Just out of curiosity I asked how much it was. Was told £2.68

I have standalone ECU so I could easily make a map for it but at that price I cant help but shudder. BP claim 7% on a FI Engine

Anybody actually ran their car on it and noticed anything past the Placebo. At twice the price of BP Ultimate its got to be pretty special I would have thought.

IIRC it made 40bhp more on a Porsche turbo with a different map.

ETA. why bother, get some sunoco 102 and it's cheaper.

It popped up in my local BP in 2007. Need to get a PIN number from the person in the shop before you can fill up with it.

I dont fancy it in my current 1.4 biggrin

Sainsburys 97 or Tesco 99 is occasionally as exciting as it gets for me at the moment !

A little resurrection here

Filled up my WRX PPP with Aral 102 yesterday (156.9 Euro per litre which equates to around £1.31). Have to say it will be the "motion lotion" of choice whilst I am in Munich, so much smoother, more responsive, quieter - Nice!
