RE: Weineck Cobra
Discussion
Just watched the Weineck Cobra clip on youtube and I am pleased to say that my neighbours are now well aquainted - mit dem ungeheuer - with the teutonic beast.
Sounds as though they will build you any engine with any level of bhp as long as it is a V8 and then shoehorn into a cob. Built one for a customer with 4500 bhp! Base price of their cobra is 200,000 euros and runs to ??????? Judging by the commentary, the brakes on this model are Porsche, the ram tubes custom built, and a straight gate gear box mit der little red button for the Nitro. 850 to 1350bhp! The narrator states that driving this car is akin to bungee jumping off high buildings. It helps if you have nerves of steel!
He speaks quite in a rather accented german style so not 100% certain of all the info.
No bonnet bulge either. Curiouser and curiouser said Alice as she fired up the beast.

So according to the piranhas on this site, a Ferrari FXX could be considered chav? Or a Murcielago R-GT? How about a Pro-Stock car with it's scoop? Or maybe an F1 car and the intake behind the seat??? The scoop is FUNCTIONAL!! Did you see the size of those carburettors!!??? They're going to need air from somewhere aren't they? As said before, 'chav' or 'rice' refers to aesthetic mods that do nothing for the performance, SOMEHOW I think that scoop (or any of the scoops and spoilers I mentioned) could possibly be for a purpose. The entire point of this car is that it' a mad, mad car for mad, mad people. And I want one!

They only do five to thirteen liter V8 in their workshop, and they've worked for two years to get die power on die strasse. The frame has tubes with 10cm diameter, and the car has 16 customers who will never sell them and only drive 2k km per year when the roads are dry and not commuted. Guess they'll hurry up in that short time span to get 2k km

So many un-restricted autobahns, so little time.
The engine is BIG, The quickest cars in the Street Eliminator Series currently run Big Blocks
over 600ci. Colin Lazenby, Gerry Charles, Steve Pateman....Run 706ci,with NOS. They all make
about 1,000+ HP with similar amounts of Torque, compression ratios round about 12 to 1. Fuel
is currently Shell Optimax 97RON with some Octane Boost. The B.P. Ultimate 102 I don't think
is currently used. The Quarter Mile Times are Impressive Low 8's second pass @ 180mph. These
Cars are technically Road Legal, but we push the Rules a bit. With out NOS the cars will run
Low 9's @ 155mph. I think Gerry Charles holds the fastest pass without NOS @ 9.0sec's @ 156mph, Although Steve Pateman ran an 8.5sec pass using a controversial tyre.
These Cars are Running at Avon Park Raceway this week end Weather permitting. Any Questions?
A 706ci Block, Carb to pan Second Hand will set you back 15-20K.

Got to admit I'm sick of hearing the word 'chav' on Pistonheads. Are we in some way superior to other car enthusiasts? I don't care whether you're into sports cars, supercars, Jap cars, hotrods, custom cars, lowriders, classic or vintage cars or even if you get a buzz out of putting a loud exhaust on your Corsa, you're still a petrolhead. I'm always on Pistonheads but I'm starting to get a bit sick of the snobby attitude of some of the contributors. Oh and by the way, I frickin love that Cobra!

My FTP isnt working or I`d upload some piccies of a friends 1000-1100 bhp plus completed spring 2005(it broke the hub rollers so its not been fully defined)
It has a racing Corvette LS2 engine, injected and he had Garrett build custom hybrid turbos (yes two)
He has to drive it on the road at 1/4 throttle, spins the wheels at any time and speed
Based in Herts Its a Gardner Douglas spaceframe Cobra (not flat frame like most) with a custom diff (Australian V8 racing diff I think)
Reckons its just over 2.5 secs 60-100mph I am not sure what the 0-124mph is on road tyres but it must be similar but I wouls venture on slicks it`ll stuff the diff.
Mental, simply mental.

Well said
The only possible exception to your list of real petrolheads might possibly be the comedy exhaust brigade, unless they've done a few other bits and pieces, after all they don't give squat more power on their own.

Lovely car but that bonnet scoop ruins it for me.
If you have to wreck a car's lines for more acceleration why bother? It's Chav time by another route. The one in the video has a much smaller bonnet scoop and looks much better for it. The one featured in the picture looks like the scoop is designed to get a supercharger under it.
wonder how they get 100lbft torque per litre then ? I also wonder where it it all goes as at 7000rpm 1100 hp is 825lbft torque! There's no supercharger as far as I can see?
I should imagine for day to day road use a rev limit of about 1600rpm might just tame it!

What it needs is a bonnet like Bosscerbera's Cerbera to tone it down a bit (or at least let you see where your trying to steer it!)
Love the theory and engineering behind it and think it's great people are still building and selling such a loony motor vehicle
If I had the money to buy a Veyron, I would hopefully have the sense to waste my money on this instead as it looks much more entertaining and you could use the change in your pocket to distribute to your family in your will
