Ive just remembered the Subaru Leone 1.8 3speed auto that 2 friends and i bought while i was in NZ for a month. We managed 160kmh 3up with luggage, although 3rd was geared ridiculously high, about 60kmh/thou revs. And if you didnt have your foot down it would shift into third at 40kmh. It was a truly hilarious car. I think it did 0-60 in about 24 secs.

In response to the 'Fastest youve been' thread, i noticed alot of people complain of unsuitable machinery for such vmax shananigans, so whats the fastest youve been in a totally unfast car? And put power figures if you know them for extra chucklevision.

I'll start it off with 116mph in a 200,000 mile-old peugeot 205 diesel that pobably didnt have many of its 59hp left.

Push it off Beachy Head?

I've done GPS confirmed 98mph in an 800cc Daewoo Matiz.

I honestly thought it was about to fall apart, and it only had about 1,800 KM's on the clock.

83mph downhill in a 1098cc Morris Minor (48bhp). I later found out it had a burnt exhaust valve so it's probably good for more.

The fastest basic cars have to be Hire/Loan cars.

In that case , 215 kmh in a French registered Rover 214. Plenty of emergency starts as well. Hire cars are great!

But have to say I was more plesed with getting my 1.3 Mk2 Polo's speedo needle to bend against the mileage reset button. Looked about 115 but miles off the clock by then.

I did 135mph and tacho was rising to 6k at 3am on M1 in standard citroen AX GT i think i did about 140mph ish.

my first car was a Fiat Uno 45. I used go flat out everywhere, Emergecy start everywhere. did 112mph on downhill toward to chesterfield, the most scary bits is i had to steer around the long bend at top speed in 903cc fiat Uno with skinny tyres.....

Scariest car at top speed is Hydaduni Accent 1.3. 90mph... got me really white. the car handled like icecube on ice. Over assisted and very numb power steering...

Got a 150cc Suzuki bike up to 150km/h, it was right on the red line in 6th bouncing off the rev limiter. ’89 1.5 litre Civic up to around 136mph (ran out of speedo) but it was on a downhill piece of road so that should be taken into consideration. Even my current Honda will outpace the speedometer (180km/h) on the flat!

*On private roads of course.

I had my Citreon AX (1000CC) off the clock going down the A404 marlow bypass. Stupid at the time and probably didnt think about how I was going to stop the thing.

My first car was a Metro 1.0L with half of it repaired with 3mm steel and copious wwlds meanign it weighted in at significantly more than standard.

I was determined to make the 53bhp push it beyond an indicated 100mph. The closest I ever got was downhill on the A5 with a tailwind and both hands on the right hand side of th ewteering wheel in an effor to keep it straight. I managed to see 98mph thought the vibrations... paperbag

Indicated 100mph in a Fiat Cinquecento S (900cc version) downhill with 5 passengers (I was one of them) when I was 17.

Indicated 126 in a (very slightly fettled) Nissan Sunny 1.4LX coming down Pennines on the M62.

Not a top-speed as such, but one of my friends used to own a J-reg Vauxhall Astra 1.4 8v. Dunno what the deal was but it was stupidly quick for what it was. I had an Almera GTi at the time and really there wasn't anything in it between the two. We even used to swap cars to make sure it wasn't a driver issue and it wasn't. That car could do 0-60 in about the same time as my Almera and could also get the speedo 'off the clock' (130mph IIRC).
