Hi all,
To add to this thread I previously owned a VW Golf R32 Mk5 DSG and after a couple years went to a 330d same year. Yes diesels are boring, dag dag, black smoke and short torque bands if you go for the common 2.0diesel lump however as everyone states when deciding a bmw to go for that the 6cyl are the one. They don't sound like the common boring 1.9 Diesel engines that flooded car markets around 2000 even when at idle. When pressing on it certainly doesn't. It will keep with brand new focus st which is 10 years of advancement ahead, will leave type r's and more and with a remap has as much torque as a gallardo or Nissan GT-R r35. It doesn't have turbo lag as such, only something you would compare to a petrol at the same speed etc, it doesn't run out of puff like all the older diesels and so therefore not forever changing gears like something out of fast n furious. It also returned 53mpg on a run something which a petrol equivalent cannot compete. It is easier to drive fast in auto as it is matched with the car well. There is no petrol car that has such great low down torque without changing gear that can really compare so when people say diesels are boring it really is a preference. Like I said I went from the r32 so the same engine as the TT and neither would get away from the 330d. The turbo whistle is a good sound when pressing on and it is fun when the TC flashes in the wet at 60 mph or over bumps at 75 in the dry. The Golf was fun too but the sound more added to it and nothing else really stood out. No it's not the fastest diesel.... that's the 335d which is the fastest production diesel but then neither are the petrols people are comparing. It really does come down to preference but get the right diesel you can have fun, that's coming from experience and that's in a highly respected petrol. A bonus of petrols generally is sound and ability to rev higher but for all round you cannot compare to a 330d/335d, c350d or Audi' 3.0tdi for power-economy-drive ability and ease of which doing so. For my driving I can sit at 50 or 60 and overtake whenever, no down changing, no getting in to the v tec/powerband, the car will work for me so point to point I can cover a lot quicker and also do so with so much ease and relaxing. Also people saying unless covering 20k miles then no point getting a diesel..... the point is buying second hand they aren't more expensive than petrol version, over a trip regardless of miles the diesel will return better economy and only 2p more a litre when a petrol 330i will return around late 30's on a trip and the same trip a 330d around late 40's that's more than saving the extra 2p. People may go wrong with buying a diesel because they see a lot of them and believe it's great, take for example the 320d. There is a rediculous amount of them however the amount of problems with them is high so something you wouldn't believe unless you do the research. There are problems with all cars.... vw with the DMF, fords and the injectors and pumps, same with bmw, Vauxhall with the DMF and gearbox's, all of them turbo's and at the end of it it is how it has been looked after etc. There is no right answer just buy what you prefer and enjoy it. ...... and remember don't take on a fabia vrs..... they are the dogs b******s, or are they just dogs. 😂

So i have just bought a 330d last week it is crazy fast overtakes in a blink i dont doubt one bit that it will do 155mph its faster than I expected I previously owned a focus st 225 2.5 i reckon it would of had that hands down and that was running nearly 290 bhp. I live in the north of scotland and bought it frim middlesborough thats a 400 mile trip it did it in just short of half a tank of diesel and the computer said it returned 55mpg great car thinking about getting my bluefin put onto it
