My dad had one of these when I was 14 years old. He'd had a couple of 5 Series, including a 525i and 528i but when he rocked up in a new-ish B reg silver 635 on a sunny summer's day it was a schoolboys dream (well it was mine anyway). I loved that car and still do.
After a couple of years of owning the CSI I always hoped that it would be followed by an M6; but it was not to be. No, it was followed by something far more exciting. An Alpina B7 Turbo! 3.0 Litre Twin-Turbo...that had a manual, yes manual, adjustable turbo boost gauge. It was a dial that was down by the gearlever, that could be adjusted whilst driving! Oh yeah a 4-speed box aswell....which meant 90mph in 2nd! and oh what a sound!
Beemer's just aren't what they used to be. I think i'll just hold onto my fond memories of the original M3's, 5's and 6's of the 80's.

My second car was a 635CSI. (£3,000 in '86) My third was also a CSI having lost the first in light rain just outside the south exit of the Blackwall Tunnel. I can guarantee one thing, when you think your time is up your life does indeed flash before your eyes. I then bought a second 635 to replace the write-off and 2 years later foolishly went on then to buy a third 635, a Highline.
Problem was that as a kid in te 70s I saw an early model in Berlin and vowed when I 'grew up' to own one. This pattern of vehicle choice continued to my next car, the 928!
The foolish thing was that I wrote off the first one, sold the second when seeking out the Highline and then ended up smashing that one too. Problem, no weight over the rear wheels and an inexperienced driver to boot. A mate of mine tried to explain that I should have driven with sandbags in the boot to even out the weight distribution.
There you go, that's what happens when you buy a car with your heart, not your brain!
