How difficult are these sort of projects?
Presumably you need to put some strength back into the structure due to the loss of the roof?

Would be quite a useful bit of kit if you could retain the handling traits of the donor vehicle. Presuming of course it handled well in the first place.

I was out in southern Africa over Christmas, and you can get Corsa and Fiesta based pickups.

The Corsa, especially, looks good IMHO....

Starting with a 3-door hatch or coupe would require less fettling below the window line. eg use a 3-series coupe rather than a touring and you don't need to weld up the rear doors.
Larger front doors though so the load bay wouldn't be as long. All E36's (saloon, coupe, cabrio and touring) share the same floor pan and can use the same towbar.
But this project isn't for practicality, it's for style wink

Longer side doors could mean the difference between a clean 4-window cab design and one that needs a bulge in the rear to accomodate the seat back.

I've always had a hankering for a Ford p100 pickup; as you can see its got Sierra body panels, so could be modified to look like a Sierra Cossie, which would be totally awesome.

Also plenty of space under that bonnet for a cosworth V6/turbo/whatever...go to go with the show...

I don't want to buy one already made. I was thinking about an estate because there would be less messing about with rear lights and tailgate.
I was also thinking of using a similar rear cab to the Skoda Felica fun pickup where the rear of the cab moves back and seats fold down outside.

I know the pickup is a bit of a silly idea but it's easier than the first two I had. they were:
2 door Mk3 Orion Cosworth
Mk1 Focus convertable

The Focus convertable is on the back burner as I still really want one.
If I build a Focus pickup it will have the RS bodykit, wheels and interior.
Whatever I build will look like an RS, GTI or whatever with just a few modifications. I want it to look like it came from the factory.

the skoda fun boot/seat thingy is a great idea, but a bit useless for our weather (im assuming your in UK)

i sat in one at the dealers when my dad had his skoda vans that were similar
and i could get in the back seats
but i was abuot 12 then

just looking at your other plans you thought of, have you done anything like this before? and do you have any pics because id be really interested

I won't go into the story of how this came about but I am in the situation where my new project car is going to be a car converted into a pickup.
I am looking for advice on which car to use for the project.
The choices I'm looking at so far are:
My Mondeo ST200
Mk4 Astra van
Mk1 Focus estate
Mk4 Golf estate

If anyone has any suggestions they will be gratefully recieved as I'm kind of lacking insperation at the moment.
Anything except the ones on the list confused

I'm sure there is (was?) a special hardtop that covered the passenger compartment when you slid the seats back, but my Google mojo isn't working.
