£58k at auction for a 2008 tronic car seems very good value against a new price of £88k, but was £88k just too much in the first place? Surely they wont fall below £40k ever?

Lots for sale just now, plus it's not really a 'keeper' is it?

I found the R8 technically brilliant but a bit boring, plus a lot of cars were bought as 'investments' and have left quite a few people with burnt fingers.

I don't know about that. I suspect the market history of the R8 will closely mirror that of the Honda NSX.

Got to agree, its one of those supercars that doesnt really fit into any other supercar category, and its ugly. If they did drop to NSX money, I would still take the NSX I think imo wink

Unfortunately Audi have made a beautiful car, electronically perfect but as is so often the case it lacks soul....something few German cars have ever had, and thus people do not want to keep long term such cars....look at M5 and M6 prices or SLK and CLK AMG prices....ouch.

Audi need to create a separate 'motorsport' identity, not an RS or even an R, but something like Toyota and Lexus or in the US Honda and Acura!

They also need to race the R8 possibly in a one make championship around the DTM or WTCC. If really brave a Procar type series across the US and Asia.

A very interesting point. They are both very capable 'everyday supercars', both with very nice gear changes, and are (relatively) cheap to run compared to Italian stuff. I've not driven an NSX nearly as much or on a track however I'd say the R8 is much better for track (NSX-R aside) as it's firmer (but still rides extremely well) and the turn-in is just fantastic IMHO. I don't personally see the R8 as ugly but think it will date quite quickly, in a similar way to the NSX I guess.

The R8 was one of the biggest 'it' cars of last years, it'll certainly be interesting to see what does happen to the prices, especially once the v10 arrives.

I know of an 07 car with over 35k on it, it's had a few R-Tronic issues (complete new gearbox fitted under warranty) but other than that its not missed a beat.

Yup - fella at my work does.

Spoke with him at Christmas and he'd done 17k miles in a year, which didn't seem bad going.

I borrowed one last year for a few weeks. It was crap. It broke down outside Silverstone after overheating issues, and also just conked out near Cambridge. It didnt impress me much. So I wont be buying one.

Lol, true. Although you missed the 'other than that..' smile

I don't think it blew up, and compared to an F430/Gallardo/Vantage etc at that milage on an early car that's nothing. Servicing costs were less than a grand which on 'supercar' at that milage is nothing. On any other of the others you'd be looking at well over £3k on servicing alone, let alone clutches etc - which was replaced with the gearbox by Audi AFAIK. Not bad in my experience.
