Just heard the news, I'm saddened, he was partly responsible for giving us the mighty Griffith, a car I still love, I’ve owned two 500’s so far, I had the pleasure of shaking the mans hand at the NEC car show.

I’d like to offer my condolences to his family at this time.

He was a hero to me back in my 420 SEAC days. Before the sale and maybe afterwards he was TVR, and I worried he might be smoking himself and the marque into an early grave. Does anyone know if his illness was smoking-related?

Very sad and far too young to die. Thank you for all my fantastic Griff 500's and for the conversations we had across your office desk. RIP.

I heard this on Radio Le Mans aswell, but only just half heard what they were saying and couldn't be sure that it was PW that had passed away.

Sad news. frown

He gave TVR a new lease of life and 20+ years that it would probably never have had otherwise.

I never knew or met PW, but if any of his family and friends read this thread, all that comes to mind is to offer my sincere condolences for your loss.... and......Thank you so very very much for the pleasure of my Cerbera.

He will be sadly missed, for me he made me very happy with his biggest mistake...the Cerbera, his words not mine.

To be able to say that the sheer brute force and breathtaking beauty that is the Cerbera was your biggest mistake is quite something. The exuberant non-pc-ness of Pw's cars is and always will be glorious. RIP.

Ps hello Scruffy and Campbell, haven't been on here/seen you here for ages wavey

He clearly loved life as much as TVR owners loved the excitement provided by his cars. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I started with TVR at the same time as Peter tool over. For me TVR was Peter,Dave Cummings,Dave Haugphin and Giles Cooper all great characters. Sadly only Giles is still with us.All four of them had a great influence on TVR.

Very sad news indeed.

I have nothing but the fondest memories of my 2.5 years of working for the big fella.

PW has left this mortal coil as a true legend.

On of my favourite images of PW was him driving home in the Speed 12.

Given his disposition for being happy to unleash outrageous cars onto the public roads it must have been some drive and some car for him to conclude the Speed 12 was too much for the road!

Apparently he was once asked 'what advice would you give to someone wanting to start their own car company?'

He said 'don't'

Even though the wily old fox stitched Smollensky up like a kipper, he wasn't in it for the money.
