French cars in general, I don't see why they are as popular as they are in the UK.
They're generally pretty cheap.

The price, along with the fact that most of the population just want a 'car'. Logical thinking probably doesn't really come into it.

AND by having 5 gears (rare at the time) it made an ideal tow car. 1750cc as well.

I just had a look on broadspeed and both the clio and yaris are roughly the same, so surely if a car is required then a yaris will suit much better than a clio?

They're basically the same car to most people. So, they must be just going on which they prefer the look of.

BMW Mini! Chrysler Neon engined, Astra sized, over hyped, over priced, crap boxes. BMW have never made front wheel drive with good reason.

Sorry?! Have you ever driven, or even seen, one?

It's not Astra sized (I used to have a Mini and now have an Astra, the Mini was a lot smaller!), is very well made, fantastic to drive and no more over priced than the new Fiesta. Put your prejudices to one side for a moment and actually look at one, as long as you don't need to use the back seats regularly it's a fantastic little car and one more suited to the PH ideology than almost any other.

Great, cheap motoring, apart from rather poor turning circle for city car.

I vote Corsa, Vectra, Astra etc

Must admit i dont really understand 5-seat MPVs.. sure, you've got 3 kids you need a 7 seat car which means big mpv or discovery etc. But what is the point of a 5 seat car that looks like a pram but has no more space than a normal car?

Dont understand that one. Yet there are thousands of those small-MPVs on the roads?

a little bit higher to make it easier to load kids in and out of child seats, and to make it easier for women to see/park

and, erm, that's about it

Girlfriends Cooper cabrio is utterly horrid. Handles like a terminally understeering tank yet has rock hard suspension, has ridiculously overweighted steering, scuttleshakes like a 90's Saab, leaks, has plastic leather, bits of trim inside and out keep falling off, for all intents and purposes has neither a boot nor back seats, it's unbelievably slow and sounds like a leaf blower, has a twitchy throttle and a loose gearshift, and it's had various underbonnet problems. And I haven't even mentioned the 4 windscreens (which have all been distorted to look through because of BMW's rubbish heated windscreen tech) that have spontaneously broken while driving along flat roads. AND it cost 20 grand.

The only positive thing I can say about it is that it has good brakes.

It is in fact the worst all round car I have ever driven.

Her Mum's new Works is much better, mind you.

Why the downer on the BMW Mini? The Cooper S is surprisingly quick, a good drive too apparently.

A newborn is typically in a high-level pram so I can just about understand this. Lifting a newborn from a pram to a car seat at the same height is probably slightly easier, but remember the newborn weighs less than 1 stone.

From about 4-6 months, your baby will probably be in a buggy that is at about the same height as a car seat in a normal car so would have to be raised to get them into an MPV. From 18 months your toddler will be walking up to the car by itself and trying to climb in. The higher the car the more likely you'll now have to lift your 2 stone toddler.

Small MPVs are the car equivilent of expectant parents buying a £500 pram/travel system thinking it's mandatory for their little darling. 6 months later it's gathering dust at the back of the garage and they've bought a £50 buggy.

Because most on here think it's not manly enough- they feel they have to impress their mates and in their narrow mind they feel a MINI would just look too girly...
The MINI is truely an ace car in every aspect- bar the practicality.
