10 years thread bump! Halfords still selling the same products at inflated prices, how many of the local motor factors have gone bust?

Not Halfords but I noticed a key fob battery discharge warning on my dashboard. I had the car in at the main dealers (BMW) for something else and enquired about it. £28. I jumped on YouTube, watched a 2 minute video showing me how to get into the fob without damaging it and then bought a pack of 2 batteries from Asda for £4.50. It took me 15 seconds to do. I know dealerships have overheads but Christ on a bike, that's a big uplift.

They open longer hours than many motor factors so if you are visiting in office hours then why go there and moan, go elsewhere? And if going early or late, or Sundays, then paying a quid or two more is fine for the convenience.

If you buy online and click and collect/get them to price match in store, it can be cheaper.

I don't agree with their 2 tier pricing either with those with a trade card getting stuff for some half the shelf price. I only use Halfords if I'm desperate for something while working on my cars in an evening and the normal motor factors are closed.
In fairness it’s not difficult to get a card. Any sort of engineering qualification gets you one. I used my ONC in Electronics. No problem. Had one for years. Own a business you can get one. But I do agree it’s a bit weird have a two tier system. Sometimes even there lower price is nowhere near a motor factors or online price n

A rare thing I believe, but buying front and rear cameras for the wife's Christmas present (it's what she wants, honest), they not only beat the next best price by a tenner, but also included a decent SD card and various accessories which were extras elsewhere.
