Is Classic and Sports Car the most interesting UK magazine
Discussion
Currently subscribe to Classic and Sportscar, Evo and Octane.
I've long loved EVO but for the first time, I'm starting to feel it's basically the same every month.
Classic and Sportscar is a great magazine, has some really interesting contents and a fabulous classifieds section which I can spend hours dribbling over.
Octane - well, only recently read this for the first time. 3 copies for £1. Thought I'd have a bit of that. Rightly so, too. Brilliant magazine with a really good balance and people writing who know what they're on about.
I think Evo is the one I'm gonna have to let go of and I never thought I'd say that. Maybe it's me getting older, maybe it's the mag ?
Overall - Octane looks the best to me but it's still fresh on my radar. Time will tell.

I could have written exactly that myself. I've every Evo on the shelf since Edition 1 but I don't know when I last read a copy in it's entirety. C&SC is the one I really look forward to and Octane is very enjoyable too - I think it's because you can turn the page from reading about a Bugatti to suddenly find the history of Bakelite!!I've long loved EVO but for the first time, I'm starting to feel it's basically the same every month.

Maybe I'm getting old too...

Octane seems like a special "Old Car edition" of GQ mag for my tastes. Not enough stuff in it imo
It couldn't be more different to GQ. There's plenty of decent, intelligent articles, and even if they don't all appeal, the mag still takes a good while to read. Skip the male grooming ads in GQ and you're left with about 30 minutes worth of reading.Edited by benny.c on Tuesday 8th December 14:54

Quality not quantity dear boy its not getting old, just more interested in the 'golden age' of our love of cars.
quality of writing aside, comparing a car that is likely to feature in evo and one from octance is like comparing a g-shock watch to a franck muller. hi-tech bells and whistles vs craftmanship and quality.
the last few issues of octance have been cracking. i'm also looking forward to the cars & girls feature next mth

I've a complete collection of C&S from the first edition up until 1990 and after that I've only bought it when there was something of specific interest to me. It would appear that everything has been done at least once and many cars are featured time and time again. It almost feels that everything that can be said has been said and the number of classic cars has been exhausted.
I started getting them in about July '84 and have to disagree with you. While some cars/models have been done a few times, they keep coming up with new stuff all the time and the recent reformawas a great success imho.Talking of C&SC ...... http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1342086.htm
