I'm supplying tyres and just wondered how much is about right for fitting and balancing?

My local place said about £50 to do all 4, plus about £5 each for disposal of the old tyres.

I have only ever bought tyres with fitting included so I'm wondering whether that price is about right or is it a bit on the expensive side?

Advice much appreciated.

That's about right. Usually tenner a tyre, £5 disposal is normal. Prices are usually higher when you don't buy tyres from them wink

I paid 10 quid a tyre for mine last week, including new valves, with no charge for disposal.

They even looked up the jacking points in the owners' manual; properly torqued the wheel nuts using a manual torque wrench; and asked me what pressures I wanted. I was quite impressed really.

Sounds a fair price for an outfit to change a set, and dispose.

the disposal fee seems a bit high i think they only pay a quid to get rid, but the fitting seems alright, they always add a bit when you didnt buy them there.

That was quick! smile

Thanks folks!

Looks like they are average to slightly pricey.

Last time I had tyres replaced the fee was £2 for disposal but I guess that was a while ago and nothing ever goes down in price, especially if it's related to motoring wink

My local place charged me £35 to fit 2 tyres.
The following week the same place charged me only £10 to repair a puncture in one of tyres they put on the previous week ! Other than balancing, they did less when fitting than when doing the puncture !

You don't really need the disposal fee, just set them on fire and chuck them over a random council estate fence.

I got a quote from Camskill the other day for a couple of FK452s delivered. £142 it came to. I rang ProTyre Bristol and they reckoned £165 fitted after a minor haggle. Given I figured I'd have to pay 20 quid minimum for fitting it wasn't worth me bothering with Camskill... errrr, not sure if this little story helps hehe

£7.50 a corner at my local fitter - although I do bung them a slab of beer at Christmas.

That sounds a bit expensive. When I swapped onto winters on my mrs car they charged me £38.50, ie &7.70 per tyre, fitting, balancing, valve etc, but no disposal costs as I took the 5 old tyres home and flogged 'em second hand.

Ever tried fitting tyres manually?

I have!

Stage one getting wheel off.

Use huge lever and damage your sockets trying to break super torqued up wheel nuts from last time garage did the job.

Stage two getting tyre off.

2 x 18 stone blokes Jumping up and down on the tyre wall trying to break the bead.
6ft of scaffold pole with tyre levers welded to the end. Bent screwdrivers, scrapped knuckles, damaged rims and frayed tempers after an hour and that's just getting one off.

Stage three getting tyre back on.

Repeat above plus more cursing and swearing, bouncing tyre/wheel up and down on floor like a demented basketball player trying to seat tyre, whilst puny compressor coughs and splutters like an asthmatic ant at the chest clinic!

Stage four! three more tyres/wheels to go.

PS Balancing what's that? Better take them to the tyre depot!!

I think anything around £50 for four tyres is cheap.

It takes them five minutes, they have £10,000 machine which does not damage your rims, they do it all day, and are a damn sight better at it than you or me. You sit and drink tea with clean hands reading FHM in warm. Best £50 ever spent IMO.

My local place usually charges £15 a corner - including disposal, though I suspect that if I took the old tyres home to grow spuds in it would still be 15 quid.

My local charges £50 for four all in. Not excessively cheap but I always use them because they get the balancing right firat time and take care not to mark my wheels.

my local charge £15 for up to 18", or £20 for 19"+.

that includes ballanging, and disposal, and seem to do a good job, and take very good care over your car/alloys where you stand next to them watching what they are doing hehe

I have a similar local garage, similar price.

But last time i was there getting some brand new alloys fitted with some tyres i supplied- they asked if i wanted clip on weights or stick on ones when they balanced them, what pressures i wanted them, and they wrapped the wheels up neatly in cellophane so they wouldnt mark my boot when i picked them up. Very impressed, so didnt mind spending the money.

I paid £80. Any higher?
