It's not that much different...certainly wouldn't say you get £2k's worth more space in the Fabia!

Oh no! Not you (and your YRV) again

Great isn't it. Never ever thought I'd buy one, but now I love my Skoda!

Have now clocked up 5000 miles in my Fab. Great on the motorways, but even better down the lanes, the road holding (to me) is superb, beats my old 206.

All very timely this thread, I have been mooching over one of these for a new co' car at the end of September. Just confirmed it all today, Black Fabia vRS.

Would anyone like to tell me what else I can get that is as good, bearing in mind the limits set by the bean counters:-

5 door hatchback
Diesel
£12K maximum RRP

Right, now to get that chip booked...

You can get the 'equivalent' for £10,453.56
Seat Ibiza 1.9 Tdi PD FR 130 3 dr £12,299.53
Seat Ibiza 1.9 Tdi PD Cupra 160 3 dr £14,641.31

Both 3 door though. I paid a little more than £11k for mine, and because I use it for work, 5 doors does make a difference to me. And the Ibiza 160 is £3.5k more than I paid, when I can get mine chipped to over 180bhp for an extra £500ish (not even sure I need to for normal every day driving).

I've just nipped out and done a bit over 200miles since my last post and it's come in at 58mpg, even though the car's only got 1500 on the clock and so is way off peak performance yet - and I wasn't hanging about! That's less than £14 for 200 miles!!

Telecat, the chassis on the vRS is not the same as on the standard Fabia - it is beefed up and is fine for standard driving though a strut brace will stiffen it up if you're going to give it some hammer. Eibach do a set of springs which are specific to the Fabia, and I reckon that'll be all I need to bring it to my taste. And to be fair to all the hot hatches, they are built for the mass market - I very much doubt that their average target customer is a Griff 500 driver who has adjustable suspension and a tendency to set it on the hard side, and spends about £500 a year in road and track day training

No-one here thinks anything when someone buys a Tuscan at 45k and straight away puts Nitrons on it; it makes me laugh that the suggestion that a set of £130 springs to improve a £12k car means it's poor value for money .

Sceptics can come and have a shot in mine if they like, or Silverstone TVR have one as a courtesy car if you go there for service.

Hi rude girl. Fifth Gear and Top Gear tested the C2 and Fabia against the Sportka and the Mini Cooper and those didn't wallow. Also my company Golf Doesn't wallow and its not even the GTI!

My old dear has a Fabia vRS, such a hooligan!

It is loosening up nicely though now, who knows maybe she will get it chipped next!

But it does still sound like a tractor!

Wait until you get it past the 10K service. I've got the same engine in the Bora and it really livened up at 10K+.

It's now done 60K in 2.5 years, nicely run in and a stealth hooligans car to boot

Far be it from me to resurrect a thread thats been asleep 6 months, but...

I'm looking at buying a <cough>Skoda<cough>VRs Fabia and wondered if people who bought one still think they're a good buy? Really want to know if they are as good as all the reviews state, and what problems (if any) you've had.

Badge snobs need not respond.

Well I still like mine, and it has seen off some pretty good machinery too once its rolling and you can use the mid range, which is stonking.

Overall, very pleased. The only fault that I have encountered is that the wash wipe pipe on the washer bottle will 'pop off' when you operate the washers when frozen, trouble is, you dont know until you try, then its too late. 1st time it happened they fixed it under warranty, 2nd time it happened, they said no, you only get the one crack at it, after that, its down to you. I was having none of that, it is a known fault to the extent that they issue a disclaimer about it saying they will only fix it once, so why not put in bold in the owners manual 'DO NOT OPERATE WASH WIPE WHEN ITS A BIT NIPPY'. Had loads of cars over a few decades, when the washers are frozen, they dont work, thats all, they dont 'pop off' the pipe and then empty the contents of the washer bottle onto the floor later when it defrosts. TBH I didnt so much mind the fault, it was more the attitude and excuse over what can be an inconvenient design fault. Put the damn pipe onto the nozzle better Skoda, with a jubilee clip or some glue!

Performance is good, considering that its just a VAG diesel afterall.
Fuel consumption is fine, varying between 43 when pressed, to 55 when pottering around.
Build quality is damn good, nice plastics, absolutely no squeaks or rattles.
Handling is not brilliant, but grip is decent enough and its all very predicatble.
Ride is acceptable, nothing to comment in the negative on anyway.

Bottom line is that it is a low rent 5dr cheapo diesel hatchback, in that context its bloody brilliant.

Yes I did thanks. Any other un-connected random threads you would like me to read too?

There are three threads about it too, one locked, one about kiddie fiddlers cars, and one that makes sense.

Re the washer bottle pipe...

It's not just the Fabia that suffers fron that. It seems to be a Skoda speciality

A bit ironic considering where the damn things are built. The Czech Rep isn't the warmest place in winter

So, biggest fault so far is I can't wash the windows when it's below freezing...last time I did that (minus 5 in a clio) the screen froze over anyway, so I try to avoid it!!

(And I use more screen wash in the mix..or use just screen wash in winter as it says on the tin, but this was freakishly cold for time of year, and 4am).

I can cope with "average" handling (drive a clio now...), so it's either this, or a 1.9 Tdi Leon.
