RE: Jaguar XFR Vs. Aston Martin Rapide
Discussion
I saw quite a few Aston Rapides lined up in one of the car parks at the 24 hour race at Nurburgring a couple of weeks ago.
Don't get me wrong I love the cachet of the Aston brand and I think the Vantage is one of the most stunning shapes of any current production car.
But morphing the current Aston design language to fit a four door body style simply lacks imagination.
Perhaps it's because as a kid I was always stunned by the dramatic looks of the AM Lagonda.
Oh the other hand the XF (despite the odd hint of Lexus here and there) looks better resolved, honest and fit for purpose.
I guess that's why if I were in the market for a watch I'd be more likely to end up buying a Timex and not a Rolex.

not lucky enough to own a rolex myself, but my old man does and that seems to keep track of time pretty well I guess that's why if I were in the market for a watch I'd be more likely to end up buying a Timex and not a Rolex.

DB9 'looks' starting to age now. XFR and an XK for me.....
All subjective of course, but for me, the DB9 is as close to timeless as modern design gets, whereas the XK has the shape and the dynamics, but ruins it with crass detailing, the rear lights and random bits of chrome bling in particular. Zod said:

Back to cars - I still remember being taken for a test drive in a DB4 when I was about 13 - the noise, the way the rev counter whizzed round faster than any I'd seen before! And yes, the electric windows too! The Aston made the Mk2 Jag we'ed arrived in seem very ordinary on the journey home.. And when a friend's uncle let me take the wheel of an early DBS some six years later the excitement was again memorable!
Now I'm unlikely to ever afford either, so I just enjoy hearing them ...

Surprised the Quattroporte hasn't been mentioned. Much rather have that than the Rapide.
That's a very selfish viewpoint.(A more selfless approach would be to buy the Rapide, therby giving everone outside of the car something nice to look at).
I'm not saying they are bad designs, far from it. Just a bit too used to that shape now. They need something fresh.
Quattroporte on the otherhand is

Why do they need to "move their game on", when they have simply got the design right?
Don't get me wrong, I love Astons. The DB9 looks gorgeous, the brand is on a high at the moment, would be great to capitalise on that with something new and a bit different to the DB9, Vantage, DBS, Rapide.... and I don't mean the Cygnet!Edited by ParanoidAndroid on Saturday 29th May 01:33

Well... that's exactly what they're doing right? They keep the "familiar" design in all of their cars, but yet everyone seems to be having a problem with that.Edited by ParanoidAndroid on Saturday 29th May 01:33
Porsche has been doing this for years, but no one seems to have so many problems when yet another 9xx arrives, with the ahem.. millionS of changes they have made over the past years...
