Not sure whether you are suggesting that Aston have it right and Porsche not or vice versa. Suffice to say that I can't see the Rapide ever losing a beauty xontest to the Panamera.
However looking at my post in the cold (sober) morning light I can see how it might be interpreted I was suggesting the Panamera over the Rapide - surely everyone would read that as me being drunk? Go ugly early!

I think the rapide looks like an elongated db9, the side profile looks all wrong and the rear end looks like any other aston from this century. I guess I don't see how people can say the panamera turbo is a hideous car, then turn around and say the rapide is gorgeous/stunning etc just because it looks like a stretched abortion of a db9/dbs. Each to their own I guess!
Out of the two I find the jag to be a much better looking design and my money would definately be with the jag.

DB9 'looks' starting to age now. XFR and an XK for me.....
All subjective of course, but for me, the DB9 is as close to timeless as modern design gets, whereas the XK has the shape and the dynamics, but ruins it with crass detailing & random bits of chrome bling in particular. Jag King said:
... and the quality all the better for it !!... very cramped in the rear though , sat in the back the other day and felt that they wasted an oportunity , same space as DB 9 just with extra doors ...
It is not the same space. I can sit in the back of rapide. I'm 6'2" and it's tight. I simply cannot get into the back of a DB9.I'm also getting a bit bored of the Aston styling - yes, they are nice looking cars, but I find myself liking the Jaguars more. This may be because the Astons are so ubiquitous here in central London.
The Rapide is a reasonable attempt at a four dour Aston, but they have clearly compromised interior space for the exterior design, which surely makes the car pretty pointless. I'd take the XFR but more likely would go for the XJ-R.

Listen, no one here is gong to turn down a Rapide, a Jag XFR, a Quattroporte or indeed a Panamera but the fact is that the people that are questioning Aston's design philosophy for this car are right to do so. The Rapide is a massive missed opportunity for Aston Martin to have started to edge away from the V8Vantage/DB9 design shape and to have carved a slightly different furrow. Also, it quite clearly should have been a Lagonda not an Aston Martin but I can only assume, unfortunately, Dr Bez and his cohorts did not have the confidence to do this and stuck with a tried and tested formula.
