These figures tend to get thrown around a lot when it comes to cars, with both petrolheads and non-petrolheads.

I've found that people's expectations differ as to whether a car is slow, poky, fast, or supercar. Some people think a 6-second to 60 is major quick, whereas others won't settle for a time above 4 seconds.

So I pitch to you - what are your boundaries for the following?

Slow:
Decent:
Fast:
Supercar:

Here are mine as an example.

Slow:above 9 seconds
Fair:7.0-9.0
Poky:5.0-7.0
Fast:4.0-5.0
Supercar:below 4 seconds

Now I know there are anomalies are that (i.e many supercars taking over 4 seconds to reach 60 but powering on from there after) but it'd be nice to see what you folks thing. Bit of harmless fun, I suppose.

Lol at 5 seconds being just 'Pokey'!

There was a time not so long ago that would have been WOW!

Despite this, I tend to agree with your train of thought on the speed brackets!

Slow:10 seconds +
Pokey:7-9.9
Quick:5-6.9
Fast:3.6-4.9
Brown Trousers:3.5 or less

(Only put slow as 10+ because my car is supposed to be 9.9) boxedin

Edit for retarded typing

Yeah, Seb. I think that's a good set of numbers.

Maybe you should also have:

Hyper Hyper: sub 3.0 seconds.

Slow: 9+ seconds? rofl

Slow is 15+ seconds, IMHO.

Realistically I'd say:

Slow: 15+ seconds
Fair: 10-15 seconds
Poky: 7-10 seconds
Fast: 3.5-7 seconds
Supercar:below 3.5 seconds

ETA: I guess I'm defining supercars more as what people these days call "hyper cars" though. I still think of "supercar" as the top tier.

I'd roughly class cars like:

Ferrari 430 = Supercar
Pagani Zonda = Hypercar
Bugatti Veryon = Hyper plus

Over 13/14 seconds - Depressingly slow
Much above 10 secs - Slow
7.5-9.9 - Bit nippy
6-7.4 - Quick
4.5-6 - Very quick
<4.5 - F***ing quick
<3.5 - Ridiculously quick

A lot of people I know (who are not car people at all) seem to consider my FTO really "fast". I think my equivalent would be something under 4.5 seconds to 60 as on the road that would put my car to shame - and many cars have done biggrin

I do think that anything 10secs or less is definitely still fairly nippy and there are almost certainly more cars on the road with 0-60 times over 10secs than there are those with 0-60 under 10. So I think under 10 is reasonable to call nippy/reasonably fast. smile

I laugh in the direction of your not so slow car smile . My Smart diesel does 0-60 in 20.8 seconds . I prefer to call it "deliberate".

0-60 times don't really represent the full picture. My track car can hit 60 in under 4.5 seconds, making it "super fast" by a lot of the above but it's a MK2 MR2 that's just been stripped out a lot. Once it's into 3rd / 4th gear the pace really starts to slow down and it feels slow.

That said, anything that hits 60 in under 4 seconds is ok by me.

normal - anything above 8s
nippy - 6.5-8s
quick - 5 - 6.5s
fast 4-5s
anything below 4s very fast

0-60 times mean nothing to me though, midrange grunt for overtaking is where its at

Lucky sod. The last time I timed my Landy to 60, it came in at 94 seconds and then I had to brake, as there was a roundabout 1/2 mile ahead frown

On the other hand, my Merc hits 60 in 5.8 or something. Whilst I know that's quick, it just doesn't feel quick.

And Clarkson and his mob have turned everyone into Top Trumps stat quoters.

How many of those above dismissing anything incapable of sub-5 seconds to 60 as meerly "quick"? There is a world of difference between buying / driving / passengering in a car capable of x to 60, and actually experiencing that quoted performance, no matter how enthusiastic your mate is on the stopwatch, and how accurate you think a speedo is.

Whats the point anyway? Thrusting along in your AMG Saturn V substitute, completely enclosed from the outside world with only a needle moving to the right and bit of G force to give an idea of whats happening.
