Corsa VX-R - Any Good

Are Corsa VXrs any good, are there any common "issues" with them?

They are an absolute hoot. A mate has one, which is superchipped, airfilter. I have heard of the piston problem, and so has he, but I think it suggests in the owners manual using 98RON, which he always does, using Tesco Momentum, and letting the car warm up, and cool down after use. Im not sure if its younger alds just thrashing the life out of them or running chipped cars with supermarket non 98RON fuel in them?

As little fun cars go, they are quick, handle well, and imho look the best, out of the smaller hot hatches.

Not terribly fast, engines can blow up on cylinder 4, brakes aren't great (they have diesel Astra brakes), and then there's the other Corsa D issues like horrible blind spots and intermittant CANBUS faults.

I wouldn't touch one with yours, TBH.

They are overpriced as new cars. However, they make cracking used buys. They suffer from the usual vauxhall gripes and niggles, but they are cracking fun. The one to go for is the Thorney fettled vxrr version.

I don't know how good or bad they are as to be honest i've just judged the book by its cover and IMO the Corsa VXR just looks like some abomonation i'd see doing handbrake turns outside Mcdonalds. surely nobody over the age of 21 would want one of these? actually that's a lie, i can imagine some fat chav bint that drinks WKD thinking they're pretty tasty

I like them. 35 years old... I am a bit of a fat chav though!

I've done a few laps of the Ring in one as well. Thought it was great little car.

I'm sure they are a decent car to drive and anyway, I'm being a total hypocrite as i drive a Clio 172 as my daily which is hardly the classiest thing on the road

I think that's a bit of a tired and quite frankly stupid stereotype to be honest.

Let's face it, how many 17-19 year olds are likely to afford one of these, new or used, let alone the insurance on them.

I too think they look quite good (I'm 30). Certainly more fun and interesting than most VAG offerings and not as ugly or boring as most others.

Big alloys and a chunky styling. Don't see why that has to be a sub 21 years olds taste

I've driven one and the power was good, and it was a decent drive but I couldn't live with the looks (exterior or interior) at my age. It was just a bit too much and that was enough for me to not warm to it.

Turn down the styling and chintz and it would give it a wider appeal imo, but if that's your thing it's not too bad....sort of.

Hahah I have a 172cup as well. Its fun little thing to drive... I do feel a bit of a wally driving it though. Even though its great fun. My friends thought I was a retard when I bought it and said I would never drive it!

I didn't say people of that demographic had them or could afford them but i would bet that it would be people of that age range that would desire them most

I would agree they're more interesting than anything similarly priced in the VAG range, but then i neevr stated otherwise, though i don't deny that i would choose a Golf Gti over a Corsa VXR

nothing generally wrong with Big alloys and Chunky styling, but IMO the styling of the Corsa VXR is just a bit tacky and looks aftermarket. I also once saw a bloke in his 40's get out of a Corsa VXR wearing a VXR Fleece jacket, i'm not sure why but i found this quite upsetting

point 1. piston#4 problem,yes some cars have had piston 4 go,but 60% of corsa vxr owners are between 19 and 25 and it is the first turbo car they have owned.(mini,scobby and lots of cars have pistons go)did you warm your turbo car up at 19.

point 2. they look chav,so you say, but some may say your car is not a good looker,each to there own.

point 3. over priced,i paid £14,000 for mine 2 years ago brand new.(1.6 turbo engine,aircon,alu wheels,recaro seats)what did you pay for your car.

the corsa vxr is a good looking car,if you hunt around you can get a good deal on a new one,6.8 to 60,over 140mph top speed,about 28mpg,lifetime or 100,000 miles warranty,vauxhall also put on more vxr power events for owners than any brand.

My 106 has Citroen Berlingo van brakes, and it stops on a fking dime. What a silly comment. it has brakes from a larger, heavier car, so in your book that's bad?

No, but they go on fire after a lap of Donnington. They're pants brakes on a diesel Astra, they're worse on the Corsa which is faster and similar weight.

Your 106 weighs 2/3 of a Corsa VXR...

That would be the choice of pad material causing a fire in a single lap in a not terribly quick, stock standard car.
