I wonder if there are any MOT testers about who might be able to answer my query:

The family wagon (1997 Vectra) has its MOT due after Christmas and I've just noticed it has no number plate lights. Earlier in the year I replaced the rear bumper with one from a facelifted model as the old one was looking the worse for wear. But I've just realised that there's a problem - when Vauxhall facelifted the car, they took the number plate light from where it was originally set in the bumper, and moved it into a new unit on the tailgate. So my car now has a tailgate from an early car (light in the bumper) and a bumper from a later car (light in the tailgate) - so no number plate light at all, and no hole it should be mounted to!

Is this going to be a problem at the MOT? It's not like it has a light present but not working; nor does it have one obviously missing, as both parts are OEM components so it doesn't exactly look like some chav has "smoothed" them over. It's been on the better part of a year and had no problem with the police, in fact the OH was pulled over last week driving a bit too enthusiastically, apparently they crawled all over the car but didn't mention anything about the number plate lights.

Where do I stand? Hopefully it will go through as it is; otherwise I'll have to source another bumper from somewhere, could be costly and it's a bit of a pain to install. Or wire up an aftermarket light from an LED strip or similar, also a pain & might need me to drill the tailgate to thread a wire through! All not ideal! Any ideas?

you can get bolts for holding the plate on with LEDs in them, could be worth looking at.

edit beaten to it.

It will fail the MOT if it doesn't have a number plate light. Get wandering through your local scrappy...

I could be wrong but im fairly sure it wont pass without a light.
I had to take the numberplate off of my chim at the MOT centre to prove it was backlit, As they were going to fail it for no lights.
