I'm getting increasingly frustrated reading anything this guy writes. He's a BBC reporter, not a commentator or pundit, yet he seems to feel he has some divine right to defend the current F1 regs, in particular the fuel saving element to them.
This isn't a rant about the new F1 regs at all, but more a concern that Andrew Benson is playing up to his environmentalist BBC bosses for showing such disdain to F1 before 2014 and such admiration for it now.
It's as if it's more about politics to him than racing.

Have to agree with this. Most of his stories are a slightly modified version of his previous one. And then the rest is reworded from the other commentators. I have to say I was wondering how much he would struggle when Anderson left since he liked to copy him!

I quite like the current regs, and really don't think there is any more fuel saving now than there has been in the past - i think ow it's just more visible and people make a big song and dance about it.

This sentence was in every one of his articles from testing until the first race. Generation doesn't even describe a defined period of time! Chief F1 writer he is not; he's the only F1 writer on the BBC.

I support the new regulations.
Well, perhaps not entirely.
I thought they would be a disaster, and that with all the other pressures on the sport, it would be severely damaged and maybe something else would take up the mantel of premier motor sport formula.
I think, however, the jury is still out on that and there seems to be a certain support building. The major source of complaint seems to be the noise and that from the armchair fans who could, one assumes, turn the sounds of their TVs up.
Whether they should have opted to go for the biggest changes in the regulations in a generation at a time of stretched budgets and scarce sponsors is a different argument.
Mercedes team is in the ascendant and the Merc engine is the one to have. So the days of one team dominating are not over. That is a major shame.
Merc have allowed their two drivers to compete but one wonders if they will continue to do so. My betting is that they will not, even if neither suffers damage after a collision. But I can't believe that, a/ they won't collide, and b/ that Merc won't then enforce team orders.
Let's enjoy the competition whilst it is happening.
