If Oliver Rowland got a decent seat then I think he has the ability to challenge for the title but I doubt he'll get into F1 sadly.
He is easily the best of the current crop of young Brits. Has impressed enormously in World Series and on the odd occasion he stepped into a GP2 car this year he was right on it.

Dean Stoneman is also very good, as shown in GP3 in 2014.

Someone mentioned Mardenborough earlier - he'll be a good sportscar driver but if anything in GP3 this year he's slipped a bit. I don't think he has enough ultimate pace.

Great shout. He's mega.
With you there. Went to a few MSA Formula meetings - he's the real thing, very driven in the mental sense as well as the four-wheel sense. Also following him in the current NZ Toyota series (or I was till Motors TV moved to 'data' only mad ) and he's nails. Has the tell-tale Stewart-Senna-Hamilton quality of being awesome (and loving driving) in the wet - the mark of a great instinctive speedster.

My money's on Lando #31 for #1 driving

Max Chilton.

He'll win the indy car series this year and the indy 500 then come back to F1 and win the championship in 2017...

Since he obviously has a time machine, I agree.

I'll presume those that are saying JB are being sarcastic!?...

Terry Wogan has a better chance. Even with the best car on the grid, his team mate would comfortably see him off.

do you genuinely believe that?

LH certainly didn't "comfortably see him off" and i don't beleive FA is better than LH

No possible way of knowing until they get to F1. A glittering junior career is not a guarantee of F1 success, neither is a ropey one in the opposite direction. Also depends on what car they get; the best car usually wins the WDC, irrespective of driver. Hamilton has had the best car for all 3 of his triumphs, as did Button, as did Mansell.

Jenson Button beat Jacques Villeneuve, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. All world champions (some better than others). Why is it ludicrous to think that if McLaren and Honda come up with an ace car he won't come out on top?

From my recollection, Button fought tooth & nail and doggedly dragged his car to a 12th place finish in the Abu Dhabi GP. By contrast, Alonso wanted to retire a perfectly healthy car because he couldn't be bothered / wasn't worth trying to compete.

It's my opinion that NOBODY can predict who the next British champion after Hamilton will be, because he is currently about ten years old!

I wonder if he's approached Ron Dennis and asked him for a job yet?

Indeed - much easier to list champions who won in not the best car.

Arguably Schumacher in 1994 (though the legality question marks mean this is probably a thread best left un pulled)

Arguably Senna in 1991 - though the Williams was quicker it was fragile, and in order to finish first, first you have to finish, and by that logic the McLaren was the better car.

Maybe Rosberg in 82? But that was a weird season.

Prost in '86. The Williams' were pretty unbeatable come mid-season but messed up when it mattered at the end.

My knowledge doesn't go back any further than that, wasn't old enough to be paying any attention. biggrin

Congrats to Lando Norris on his appointment as Reserve Driver for McLaren in 2018.
His achievements so far have been very impressive.
I believe he will partner Fernando Alonso at Daytona in January.
I think he has a good chance of joining Britain's roster of F1 World Champions.

Did he have a booster seat? How did he reach the pedals?

All depends on whether he gets in the right car or not. In the old days a good enough driver could make up for any deficiencies in the car, currently it's all but impossible. Fangio, Moss, Clark, Stewart, Lauda etc, if they were in F1 now, could find themselves stuck at the back of the grid if they made a wrong choice of team.
