He must surely have his sights set on MS's 7 now.
Will be good but the competition is getting much younger and hungrier.
Younger and hungrier but not sure any of them are as good (or at least not yet!). Assuming Mercedes continue to provide him with a competitive car - and assuming he sticks around for another few years - I can certainly see Lewis winning another WDC or two; he's without a doubt a great driver and the best of his generation by far IMO.

Although it's largely his own fault it's just a pity Alonso's ended-up in an uncompetitive car for the last few seasons of his F1 career. I think he had the combination of speed and race craft to fight consistently with Hamilton albeit my money would still have been on Lewis to come out on top more often than not...

Agree.

If I ran an F1 team Alonso would be my pick over Vettel. Probably best just to let him get on with driving rather than trying to "manage" him.
He can squeeze the pips out of a stbox and still get results beyond what the car deserves

My guess is a turd in a bowl. Schumi always had a number 2, right?

Yep.... and I could see Max pulling that move if it came down to it. On impulse.

Note that none of the above were contracted number 2’s.

That’s the difference.

I’ll start with 94.

  • Illegal fuel filter (of which a team mates car went up in flames while refulling).
  • Traction control (option 13)
  • Driving while under black flag which led to a 2 race ban, which was overturned following death threats to Hill
  • Plank gate
  • Then after hitting the wall, rejoined the track to hit Hill, gaining his first grubby WDC

Going back to the point about the cross-over and help from the big manufacturers to their race divisions to aid in engine development. from what I've read over the years in Race Car Engineering and Race Engine Technology, is that there is a lot of cross over especially with the whole lean-burn process. The fancy in-cylinder pre-ignition pockets, and almost diesel-type combustion is being developed together as it benefits the road car R&D. Perhaps Merc have been at it longer and have more knowledge here? No doubt the same happens with the hybrid stuff as well.

Regardless of how great the engine is, it also needs a good chassis and a good driver. Hamilton has really impressed me this year - he seems to have beaton Vettel and others with so much better focus and less errors never mind the damn good car beneath him.

Yes I was giving you 1994 as that is what you were discussing, which others?

BTW the 2 race ban was not overturned following death threats to Hill, not sure what media you follow, but that is nonsense.
