has anyone noticed Lewis's recent charm offensive with praising the team and the skilled engineers at every opportunity.......?

I actually think this comes across as quite genuine
Hasn't he always been quite vocal in praising the team and everyone who works around him?

For as long as I can remember; he's praised the team and people working back at the factory. He knows full well that it's a team effort and his job is just one in a long chain of important work. Fair play to him.

Good man, no idea if any other driver also came out.
was watching on Friday and thought it was great that he went over to the grandstands and signed a few caps for the fans. Why no other driver did that is a bit beyond me. Would have expected Vettel and both Red Bull drivers to have been keen.

It always has, in my opinion. And he always goes out of his way to thank the team, the first thing he mentions on the radio after a win and usually still praising them when he hasn't won.

The pictures scream desperate to be loved and admired
The pictures scream "managing a brand with an eye on Beckham's post-football career". As indeed does a lot of what he does with social media and other activities outside F1. If down the line he's flogging clothes or aftershave or jewellery or luxury booze, he's not going to be selling to the generation or demographic that's offended by posting selfies of one's tattoos and abs on social media - quite the opposite.

Yeah. Despicable to be thanking people isn't it.

can't say I noticed it that much before last season, but I stand corrected by those with their eyes peeled on these things

Lol. Some people don't like it at all if other people have a different view of Lewis, do they?

Imagine it wasn't LH posing like that. Is it still cool? What about Scott Alexander? The hundreds of Guido's that do narcissistic selfies on the net?

"Well you're just being old, this is what kids do these days." Some say. He's 32. I'm 35. No-one I would ever run into would do silly posing like that, and if they did I'd probably not be their mate anymore - it's just gash.
I don't think it's fair to compare Lewis a normal person like you or I. He's led a very different life to anyone.

When Lewis first appeared in F1 he was a bit of a corporate robot, having been under the guidance of McLaren for pretty much all his formative years. It's that period in our lives when we do daft things (like posting torso pics on t'internet for the ladies). I think Lewis missed out on all that, and was 100% focussed and dedicated to his racing career. I'll guess he didn't get much time to do anything other than racing, training, coaching, and probably had people managing his every move.

Now he finally has some time to 'discover' himself and we are seeing the whole thing played out on his social media. It's actually quite fascinating, and I think we should be grateful to get such a personal snapshot into his life, whether we actually approve of it or not.

Genuine question - I must admit Lewis and the whole selfie generation thing aren't my cup of tea - despite being a shade younger than him.

But I'm a live and let live sort of a person even if I do complain a bit

I'm not sure why there should be a point of gratitude at play - sorry, but maybe I'm missing something.

ive never been totally sure why I should be amazed or thankful a celebrity/sportsperson/whatever has 'let me in'

Just an observation

All that time being managed by McLaren he would have his eye fixed on one goal, and one goal only.... now he's achieved his goal multiple times I suppose it's only natural to kick back a little.
Plus he's getting on a bit, he's been in the F1 game 10 years now ( a late starter compared to some of the kids these days!), probably has only 5 or 6 years left so why not start the PR campaign/ charm offensive.

Lewis was impressive yesterday.

Perhaps receiving the penalty added to his frustrations but he was very impressive.

Made a poor start, was let past by his team mate twice, got a penalty for blocking, finished second to the guy who qualified third.

I'd say he's about equal with whoever did this:

Do you not consider lapping at 2 seconds faster than the leader impressive then? Most people would!

A leader that didn't need to drive the wheels off?

Hamilton is a great driver who didn't have a particularly good race. No better than a number of others.

Vettel was surely coasting at the front, especially as he needs to nurse his engines/tubos/etc.

By his own standards, I think Hamilton was poor on Sunday, getting beaten to pole then botching his clumsy/too obvious attempt to hold up D Ric.

Season though, shaping up to be a great/very enjoyable one.

Lewis seems to have lost a slight bit of motivation. Doesn't seem as hungry as he once was. Maybe Rosberg's retirement opened his eyes to the fact that other things in life are more important than driving around in circles.

By comparison, Vettel seems reborn now he has an outside chance.
