Agree with the above.

He's like Hunt, we need more like that, and less robots.
I can't believe anyone would think Lewis is like Hunt.

Hunt had a totally different attitude and outlook.

Both like to party.
Both like to wear unconventional clothes.
Both shock the 'establishment'
Both often seen in company with beautiful women.

Comparing Hamilton to Hunt is like comparing David Beckham to George Best.

"Hunt the shunt" a well earned monica. I could imagine Hunt getting out of his Car and making a lunge for Vettel fists flying.
Either that or he would have taken him out at the next bend.

What he's saying is that Hunt was a posh-sounding white guy, and Lewis is a bit too "innit" for his liking.

I thought Lewis' comments were quite interesting after Austria...

"It is important for people who are watching and also people who are reporting that you have patience with us as drivers. You can't be happy every day you have a result.

Whether it is second, fifth, 10th, whatever it is, you are going to be annoyed at one point, because you put so much into it.

You train. You sacrifice everything to make sure you get the best result possible. So when you don't - if you don't personally deliver and other things stack up against you - it is hard to come out smiling. Because that means you don't care enough. And the fact is I care more than anything.

So there are days when it feels more painful than others. There are days when it is easier to handle and think: 'I will move forwards.' So when you make comments, or are writing stories, bear that in mind. It is not a sign of being ungrateful or anything."

It's easy to forget that when those guys step out of the car and go straight into media interviews, they've pretty much been in a bubble for the past few hours with only snippets of the insight, replays or knowledge of the bigger picture. Yet we've been sat there absorbing commentary, criticism and analysis from every angle from anyone that Sky/C4 can get in front of a microphone.

Thanks for that, its an interesting insight into the man that I hadn't seen before. We consider them (F1 drivers) to be supermen because of their abilities, but they are simply humans operating at an extreme level and while we see 2 hours on a Sunday, we don't see that all consuming workload that goes on in between. Its like somebody watching you at work and assuming they know you when what they've seen is just one aspect of what makes you who you are. His quote above makes perfect sense.

You can totally understand drivers being downhearted or upset if they don't do well in a GP.

Perhaps it is just the way Hamilton come across.

He seems out of sorts again this weekend which is no doubt down to the penalty he received for the gearbox change.

Poor show. Shouldn't he be concentrating on getting ready. If he blows this race my concern about his motivation looks right.

He can't be arsed.

Ofcourse I bet you've never gone out on a weekend in your own personal time, even though there are deadlines to be met at work.

how dare he have a life outside of work, how dare he try to have fun and live in a bubble of normality for a while.

you complete and utter killjoy.

I don't know, maybe this is how he gets ready, gets his head in the right place?

I guess we'll see if that's right or wrong based on his demeanour and approach this weekend.

Rightly or wrongly he's stated many times that mentally he's in a much better place if he gets away from the F1 circus with his friends etc whenever he can. I don't really see an issue with that if it works for him, he's hardly sat around at airports getting tired etc if he can hop on his jet and go where he pleases when he wants. Merc seem to be on board with this, and I'd argue mentally he appears to be in a much better place than his restrictive days at McLaren.

When he wins it is reported that 'partying with the stars helps Hamilton win'.

When he doesn't win it is reported that 'partying with the stars means Hamilton loses focus'.

I don't think we should begrudge him a couple of days off before the very high-pressure home race he has coming up?

He's now on the back foot. Where's his focus?
