Well it appears he’s done something to piss someone off in the paddock, but despite moaning about it on Twitter Darren Heath doesn’t have the balls to actually come out with it and instead posts a big rant that is basically a teenage girl waiting for someone to say ‘u ok hun?’

I still can't believe that motor racing fans actually care so much about what he does/wears/says etc. outside of F1 - I personally don't give a toss.

He's one of the best drivers of his generation - everything over than his driving is irrelevant if you ask me.

My brother's an engineer and what he's finding is that there's a lack of engineering jobs.
What sector of engineering is that? There's loads of jobs in automotive for example.

It’s not just the racial comment, he was dumb over Xmas with his nephew (wasn’t it), I think he should just hand over his social media accounts to a management team, hold whatever views he has and just get on with driving. He blitzed everyone today, why can’t he just let that do the talking?
No body is perfect... Except you! Never made a mistake, said the wrong thing, said it the right thing the wrong way? St. Yonex. wink

Mr Heath above isn’t a fan. And, no. Of course I’ve had my moments. But I don’t generally bite the hand that feeds.

Can I keep the title though biggrin

Jim Clarke lived in Bermuda and Paris, Jackie Steward in Switzerland. Any singling out of Hamilton for this sort of thing is indefensible.
Agreed. I find it bizarre that Hamilton gets so much stick for this... drivers have done the same from day dot, and whilst they also have gotten a fair amount of stick; Hamilton never seems to shake the stigma. Very odd.
I think you'll find in this instance, it REALLY is because he's BLACK!.

The mindset of the 'average' person in Britain is he's from a family that came over and immigrated to the UK. The UK is the reason he is where he is today, so he has a duty to pay his taxes to benefit the country and its people.

The likes of Jenson and Co are FREE to do as they please.

He was bhing about the stewards. In all humour there is a kernel of truth, it wasn't a 100% joke looking in context - even as a 'joke' it was a stupid idea.

Either way - he's bob on about this in my opinion.

Hamilton made one comment 10 years ago, that was perhaps a bit racist, whether it was in jest or not is moot. Yet you still call him out for a single racist comment? I would be very surprised indeed if you have not made a single comment that could be construed as racist in those ten years.
What also has to be remembered about the period in which Hamilton made that comment was that the FIA was headed by a president who took part in an orgy that had absolutely no connotations to Nazism at all so there was absolutely no likelihood that there was any prejudice from the top of the governing body who regularly punished him at all, how could there be. A judge said there was no connection at all with Nazis in that orgy so that is OK.

Thing is; I’m afraid he’s right, at least in SOME cases. That will be what it is for many. F1 is a bit old boys network; the higher echelons at least; so there’s bound to be a strain of that very sentiment.

Mosley; when he isn’t banging nazi wes; must’ve had some pretty dire views on Hamilton’s success; but I could be wrong!

Every time I check in on Piston Heads, this thread is full of garbage. Classic example above.

I think Hamilton has a valid point. It’s not that they don’t wa t to - or would be forced - but that kids of BAME backgrounds should be encouraged that they CAN. That it is for them if they want.

And whilst I know the white middle class back bone of pistonheads doesn’t see it - but for many these barriers are real - just because it’s mental it doesn’t make it less real.

Especially when one does pop up in a role and they are dismissed as tokenism* - see any comment in NPE about the BBC or a Muslim doing reasonably well in bake off - that all just exacerbates it.

  • drivers are slightly different as they are front and centre
This isn’t playing the race card - it’s a genuine issue.

Now when he said stewards were picking on him ‘maybe it’s because I is black’ -That was playing the race card. But he was a silly young man still in those days.
This is such a weak argument. You have to question how motivated someone is if they're 'disheartened' by the fact people of their ethnicity are rather few and far between.

I was sent to a public School, I'm also a white male with blond hair. I was never encouraged to pursue maths or Science's at A-level. I wasn't particularly interested in it either. However if F1 was always my passion, I would have done the subjects above. Education is open to everyone, and higher education is afford to all people. If you want something, the road to it is there.

I wonder if LH is so vocal about the fact that there aren't more races in the NBA or 100 and 200m track events? Sports traditionally dominated by people of African descent. Could it be that sport is the antithesis of PC culture? It's a meritocracy and people are rewarded for their ability and guile to win. It's exactly why LH can look at his cabinet full of trophy's. It shouldn't matter what race of people got him there, and how many of a certain people there were on the team. Surely the sign of a society getting over racial barriers is to look beyond such backward perspectives and judge a person on their merit? I'm genuinely sick and tired of this and it appears to be getting worse.

With all due respect; genuinely... you live in a bubble.

Everything you say is true in theory and from an idealist POV; but it’s actually quite a snowflake attitude. ‘Look, we are all equal... racism doesn’t exist any more!’

Sorry bud; doesn’t work the way you’d like it to.

In this case; as in many cases; speaking about engineering; behind the curtain team members are predominantly white. Again; the road is open to everyone... but if kids from minority backgrounds don’t see anyone that they can relate to in a particular field; then they are less likely to be inspired to go that route. That’s all that is.

I hate so called reverse racism, where people might be given roles; to fill a quota... nothing worse than that. All achievements should be on merit. But understanding that some kids are on staring blocks a little further back than other kids is one move in the right direction; toward a better balance.
