Just dipped into this thread, so apologies if covered elsewhere, (cant see it but recent chat is about veganism etc), but did anyone else note his interview on Sat, when they said, "F1 drivers try not to get into politics but you've been passionate recently about the Amazon fires....."

Guy with his own private jet who makes his life driving around in circles in race cars, using 100L of high octane fuel in 1.75 hrs, at an event that brings in 100k people from around the world in planes, cars, motorbikes etc, producing nothing except "entertainment" preaching about the Amazon fires, seems ironic.
I am not sure Lewis's green credentials, vegan or note, really hold up to even the slightest scrutiny! laughlaugh
He sold his private jet fairly recently as it didn't align with his eco cred.

I suppose there is a question of balance here. If millions of people enjoy him burning 100L of fuel for 'fun' then that's about the best use of that fuel. Certainly far better use than the tonnes of fuel a private jet will burn to transport just a handful of people.

I can't stand the preachiness either, but I can see the logic of excusing fuel use to make millions happy Vs stopping using it excessively for personal reasons.

To coin the current buzz phrase. This is just virtue signalling. He still flies all over the world in private jets, it's just that he now uses rented aircraft rather than his own. I"d be rather more impressed if someone saw him flying to Monza by Ryanair.

You’d be impressed. But who cares what you think? Certainly not Lewis Hamilton.

It also didn't have the range to facilitate the NY party scene every other weekend that is the bane of todays eco-aware.

He sold his jet due to it being a keystone of the whole tax-avoidance thing he got himself into. Apparently they aren't that cheap to lease when you have to do it legit.

Any evidence for that? I haven’t read anything like that to date about him selling it I don’t recall.

Haha! That’s brilliant!!

Formula 1 driver who flies all over the world partaking in the burning thousands of litres of fossil fuel every other weekend thinks he has eco cred.

Just brilliant!!

Why does it have to be binary. One is his job, one is his personal life.

If you’ve decided to be vegan then just go about your life being vegan.

Why does everyone who’s gone vegan feel the need to bleat on about it to the point of preaching.

That said I'm not sure how much faith I would put into the Sun's or DM's reporting. However he always used to post pictures of it after races and he's not done that in a long time.

Everyone knows he got rid.

I meant evidence he sold it to save money rather than the reasons for selling not being what Lewis said.

Its a defence mechanism, it avoids the constant 'oh you don't look well' questions scratchchin

Partaking in an endeavour that is spearheading research into ever greater fuel efficiencies.

And choosing to travel up front with a few hundred others is more carbon efficient than one or two on a Lear jet.

I work in the environmental sector which requires me to travel the world quite extensively. I could cycle or walk to Belarus in a couple of weeks but I'm thinking Boeing's or Airbus's finest might be the better bet.

Err actually you only hear the people that bleat on about it, that’s not all vegans. For all you know that may just be 1% of vegans. I confess I am, but I don’t bleat, and being in my 50’s and in financial services and an F1 fan nobody gets at me about it.

P.S. saw Lewis on a commercial flight out of Shanghai this season.

This is such a hack opinion. Some veggie burgers and sausages are delicious. I would say, if you're prepared to eat who knows what parts of animals that have been mushed up into a slurry and formed into a disc or a cylinder, why would you be against doing the same to vegetables or other protein? Because, you know, it's not the shape that's the problem, it's the bit where the animal is killed.
I just find it bizarre that vegans spend ages trying to make stuff look and taste like meat.

It's almost as if the human as a species is genetically designed to seek out and eat meat.

If you really believed in the ethics, then stand by it and stop trying to emulate it. Vegans are spending lots of time and effort even trying to get vegan 'meat' to bleed.

It's virtue signalling at its finest.
I don't understand how you can't understand that people can like the taste and texture of meat, but not the fact that an animal had to die/live in terrible conditions for it.

I've started to go vegan. I've had BLT sandwiches yesterday.

Clearly the jet had leather seats, so it had to go.

Convincing the Mercedes board to drop leather seats in its cars is probably proving more tricky. But, credit where credit is due, fighting the good fight from within the system by remaining an employee takes guts and chutzpa.
