Rici is the ultimate tightarsed F1 driver currently. Ask Horner Spice.https://twitter.com/lewishamilton/status/121531951...

This tragic incident reminds me of the '04 Tsunami. IIRC, Michael Schumacher donated £7m GBP to that. Must've been around 2 months salary back then

Incredible gesture.
I'm pondering what does an F1 driver spend their money on? Must be not a lot compared to what 'normal' people might spend such cash on.
Can't go nuts eating and drinking, can't buy a supercar as they already have one for free that they're obliged to drive, travel isn't that appealing when you've already been to 20+ countries that year. Their clothes and accessories are bought for them too... private plane? Nope, that's frowned upon these days, as is a yacht..
I suppose a couple of residences is the obvious first purchase for the better paid drivers but beyond that... They don't really need to spend anything.
It's hard not to feel sorry for the poor sods

Well he's currently spending money shooting stuff in the States. Annoyingly, it would appear that he's also very good at that too!

Who? Lewis? Shooting what? It appears I've missed the story..AHH... The subsequent post has cleared it up. Is he actually paying for this privilege though? It's hard to imagine Lewis wanting to do anything that someone won't hand over free of charge.

They say it's the thought that counts and he certainly put some thought in to that

Why's that? Any examples of his "legendary tight fistedness" to offer...?Anyway, I should have phrased it better. In the context of talking about how F1 drivers don't really need to spend their own money, I was suggesting that whatever Lewis wants to do, the chances are someone will let him do it free of charge. He's more valuable in terms of publicity than the ticket price of most things he can do or buy. That's not to say he doesn't pay, just that he's welcome most places regardless of him paying.

Where did the legendary tight fistedness bit come from? I think someone else said that about DR, not me about Lewis - he's been generous several times with both his money and his time.

It's what I inferred from your comment, but it seems that wasn't what you meant. I think his generosity,in which he's not alone of course, is quite well known, which was why I was confused. All clear now.Anyway, I should have phrased it better. Just googled that, not just Ferrari! £13m garage and counting... Bit spendy, but on the other hand between interest on his bank balance and the value he adds by owning the cars - he's probably paying for them faster than he can buy them..I was once shown around a super yacht in Monaco and real wealth was explained to me thus: by the time the guy that owns this yacht has filled out the forms and had his new car delivered, the interest he earns alone will have paid for the car.
I'd say Lewis is around the point of not just not needing to spend money (due to fame...), but also not having the time to spend it even if he made an effort. I'm not jealous...
