it matters not what I do - I ALWAYS manage to hear the result before highlights come on, reflection of modern life I think

The sport should not be presented as part of the news, but seperate to it: an add-on, like the weather is. We should be able to hear the news, then when they say "sport" we can turn off.

But we dont get that. We get "and in sport, so and so wins the grand prix" as an intro to the news.

Tbh i have some sympathy with the OP.

BBC don't have any obligation to shield us but it is poor form that they lead with the victors name when it comes to sports they've had to let go due to budget pressure to fund another Shakespeare /culturally significant high brow arty thing on BBC 4

Often we don't even get that. A lot of the time its just "XX won the YY grand prix", still, at least I'm not alone in being stupid it appears.

I imagine F1 cost the BBC more than the whole of BBC4 costs in total given it’s low budget history stuff and loosely hung together pop history (with the peado presenters edited out) ... but then I’d rather BBC was just BBC4 and F1 and they scrapped Eastenders smile

Why don't you just get Sky and watch it live?

Rylan Clarke on BBC radio one gave a heads up ahead of the news bulletin on sunday morning, said something like "now here's so-and-so with the news and a formula one update" That was a nice surprise as I was driving home to watch the recordin, listening to the radio and would have listened straight through the news if it wasn't for him. A most unlikely hero

Sky put the result on the ticker tape run at the bottom of the screen.

I'm not sure one can criticise the BBC for giving the news on their news programme.

I have a bunch of things that I avoid if I want to dodge the result, including social media, news apps & websites and TV news. So far I've been 100% successful since half the season was confiscated by Murdoch. Ironically PH is one of the few places I can come and not stumble across it!

BBC news on earlier today, no warning no nothing - bham the results of the F1.

Oh but for every football game, a nice little "if you don't want to know the results look away now".

I recall a similar complaint was recorded on PoV at sometime last season, BBC response was "we don't warn people for sports we don't host, and most fans would know anyway". Of course, that doesn't stretch to other sports such as Cricket, Football, Rugby which they may show a highlights for.

Last GP my selfish flatmate blurted it out just as I was watching it, this week the BBC. I refuse to pay sky so shouldn't be penalised for it.

The OP doesn't seem too supportive of the BBC giving out news on the news.

Either the OP has an issue with the immediate spoiling of certain sports results, or they have an issue with news on the news.

I know which I think it is.

Yesterday had to one of the easiest occasions to avoid all media and wait until 2:30.

The weather was fabulous, so stream some music, have a good talk anticipating the race over breakfast and a long walk afterwards made it all fairly easy.

And the wait was worthwhile.

You're trying to avoid the result of a sports event, so you watch the news? Seems like a recipe for success.
Spot on !!

I've been a bit busy recently so I've left my radiogram off, unplugged my 14" Phillips television and asked my wife to conceal my copies of Autocar and Motoring News when they arrive, one of these days I'll watch that video gram of the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix and find out whether James or Niki won the Championship. Are DFVs still the engines to have in F1 ?

Difficult where I work

If it's not one of the many customer TVs. It's the built in Radio we have

laugh

I purchased SkyF1 this year cause in this age of social media it's difficult to keep away from the result.

Shame really as Ch4 is perfectly fine. But until they get it back live again...

I generally know to avoid areas of the internet where I might see the result, but I had a lapse first thing on Sunday morning. I opened the BBC app and it had a link to their text coverage which said something like "Shanghai Grand Prix live - Hamilton leads". They could just have the first bit really rather than a headline. Grrrrr.

I do have an issue with the general dumbing down and move to an American style of spacko reporting but that is for another thread.

OP I very often manage to avoid GP results for several days before getting to watch them. My record is just over 3 weeks and 2 races worth of results.

Switch off the radio!
