I'm watching more Indy Car rather than this crap from now on.
If you're going to judge F1 on Monaco then you're probably better off watching Indycar.
That's not what I said though is it.

I've watched every race so far. Russia was pathetic too. Whereas I enjoy the Indy 500 immensely.

I found Indy interesting as something different, but near the end it was clear being the fastest cars for most of the race meant nothing, as if you were unlucky early in the race you could luck into a fuel strategy that suddenly sticks you out in the front. Which then made the whole first 140-150 laps somewhat meaningless. Obviously the same can happen in F1 with a crash, but generally not to the same extent in terms of someone far back making a lot of places.

That's certainly not to say I didn't enjoy it, but F1 in a good race is more interesting. I didn't bother watching the Monaco GP as it is basically impossible to pass and so meaningless as a race to me. But then I didn't post that - don't like it then just move on. Better than becoming one of the people who post every year about how F1 is rubbish, and yet come back again and again.

I think last years 500 was better.

This year was a bit tedious. It suffers the same issue as long NASCAR races, everyone just sits back and rides around until the last 20% of the race. Its pretty much a waste of time until they actually start racing.

Its one reason NASCAR have implemented the stages in races this year.

Yes, I would agree with that. Although I enjoyed the Indy500 immensely, it did seem to be a bit of a lottery as you say. yes

That's not to detract from Alonso's achievement, or Sato's. Or even Chiltern for that matter (much as I am not a fan of his).

A bit like cycling points races, then. They work really well.

Wonder if they could implement a 'Madison' format, where you push your team-mate down the track for better momentum wink

The stewards have pinned the blame for the Wehrlein crash onto Button. They've penalised him with a grid penalty for his next race. That'll teach him...
Does that carry across to Alonso (serious question)?

Hamilton trying to play mind games already calling Kimi No2 and all that, so ironical and hypocritical...

I mean the bloke would go as far as accusing his own team of favoritism when things wouldn't go his way (Nico era), This season Mercedes already came out and said that they are thinking team orders now that competition comes from other teams, did he go out expressing his disappointment? Clearly not, because he knows he is No1.

Having said that, Vettel was clearly faster today and made it work, team orders or not. He pulled out some amazingly fast laps after kimi pitted, a kimi who was already struggling with pace in clean air. Let's just not pretend that Mercedes wouldn't do a similar thing, of course they would!

I don't understand the jewel in the crown thing regarding Monaco. It's a dire circuit, the cars are not suited to it and it produces zero overtakes..... every year.. there is never any over taking. It's not racing and it is dull. It is nothing more than a time trial and to get excited about a pit lane strategy shows how rotten it is. As predicted it was watched by me in my normal way asleep by lap 30 woke up with a start around lap 40 fast forward to see if anything happened watched the restart after the only interesting incident and then fast forwarded to the end again.

Webber said vettel turned his engine up for those laps, that would explain his burst of pace.

I've always been a car guy but this afternoon I watched the World Super bike from Donington, the girlfriend's a fan.
I think I'm an instant convert. What a properly exciting race, easy to get into watching these riders extracting every last gram of performance from the bikes. Front wheel lift on exiting a corner? Every lap. Toe to toe challenges in the corners? You bet. Flat out full throttle cornering? Oh yes. Even a rear wheel lift on braking a couple of times!
I watched the MGP finishing laps straight after and there's just no favourable comparison I can think of. Rallying and Superbike for me on Sundays in future.

They should change the format of the Monaco race. Perhaps they could have some sort of fastest lap competition a bit like qualifying but perhaps a knock out.
Hold it on a racetrack?

Watch this NW200 Superbikes. I was there this year. The best bike race.....

Edited to add: 54' 10" in, 180mph trying to make a pass, on the grass....

Just in from work so watched on catch-up. Dullest race of the year winner already. I think one of the commentators said around lap 50 something - that there had not been an overtake on the racetrack yet. The most overused word that I keep hearing repeated is glamour ! Yes there are a few super yachts but what's glamorous about racing round a load of old 60's office blocks ?

I'm always bemused when people say "well I'm going to go and watch X instead, that's much more exciting", like, are you not capable of watching more that one type of motorsport already? I love F1 and it's my favourite to watch as I know the teams/drivers inside out, but I also watch Formula E, BBTC, Pirelli World Challenge GT/S, GT Asia, Aussie V8, NHRA Drags (that MotorTrend On Demand subscription is a god send). All of them have their pros and cons and I like them all.

Odd ball question for you... a friend lives in a Monaco (but isn't an F1 fan) and snapped this last night as he walked home.

I'd not seen this being done to tyres before - I assume it's a Pirelli QA / post race test for the tyre structure?

Well yes, the only overtaking moves attempted ended in failure - but Monaco has always been like that. It is more about the driver skill in keeping it together and not binning it. So it is more interesting in difficult conditions admittedly, but the greater danger with the lack of big run off areas means it differs from a lot of the blander new tracks, where you also may not see much overtaking!
