I had seen elsewhere that it was originally a 1+1 deal.

Not the greatest of endorsements though with only a year, I wonder who they have their eye on for 2019. Maybe Ocon.
Almost everyone's contract is up in 2019; wish he got more than a 1 year extension however it makes sense as there are going to be so many movements this time next year including Hamilton.

Car based silly season. Shark fins might be staying for 2018, because the big numbers and no fins would mean nowhere to put the sponsors rolleyes , but the T wings are still set to go, along with monkey seats because they're getting complicated and close to blown aero with funky engine mapping like it was with blown diffusers.

Personally I don't mind shark fins, but I'm happy to see the flimsy, ugly T wings are still going.

Motorsport.com are suggesting it's possible that Leclerc and Gio end up at Sauber, with Ericsson moving across to Williams. A thoroughly depressing thought for any Williams fan right there!

A horrific prospect.

Only if Ferrari buy the team from Ericsson's backers. Which could happen I guess. But Ericsson has been slower than all his team mates. Are Williams that hard up for cash that they'd take such an inferior driver?!!!!

I guess Ericsson over Massa is a net $15-20m boost to the team budget. Would that cash and an inferior driver give a better lap time than a lower car development budget and Felipe in the drivers seat? Of course you can substitute Massa for diResta and Ericsson for Palmer, albeit with a slightly smaller $ number.

Don' think they need a boost to their budget whilst Stroll is there.

Would Ericsson still have that amount of backing as a driver if he moves to another team now that his backers are putting their money into Sauber?

His backers are extremely wealthy, and would probably take their money with them. If not Ferrari would be paying for the seats anyway giving an income to Longbow which they can take elsewhere too I guess.

F1 just makes one stupid decision after another.

Disappointed Merc renewed Bottas, look at the difference in pace today with his teammate, it's not even a race. What a contrast with RBR.
I genuinely believe Bottas having a one year deal is more than coincidence that Danny Ric's contract is then also up at the same time. Mercedes would be mad not to get him if he carries on performing as he is at the moment.

Slightly OT but I've read an article on Drive today, so it may well be bks, but apparently Kubica has also had a session in the Williams simulator.

One thing that has been fronted as a possibility is Kubika and Di Resta share a Williams seat, with Kubika missing some of the more challenging for his arm injury races. Interesting idea.

Perez confirmed but I must have missed the announcement about Ocon.

Ocon was already contracted for 2018 IIRC, so no announcement needed.

Apparently the Strolls could've scuppered Kubica's comeback hopes, swinging the Williams seat towards the mardy Scot.

Sad how much power the Strolls wield with all the money they bring. Makes me wonder how well Lance won his F3 championship.

A lot of special privileges were rumoured. F1 engineers dedicated only to Stroll in the team, helping with setting up the car. Strict team orders to his team mates to not fight him.

I guess daddy Stroll wants an average mid-fielder in the other car.

Supposedly they were very pro-Alonso so I don't think that's true.
