I thought Martin was going to show both the whipper snappers how to handle the DB5 but you’ve got to hand it to Seb (although he did come closest to reaching a tyre wall. Twice)
How much of it is actually an Aston though? It's really an E46 M3.
Ah I thought it was one of those modernised heritage rebuilds like an Eagle Speedster kind of thing.
It was custom-made, so AIUI none of it is an actual Aston. The body is all carbon fibre IINM, engine and gearbox from an E46 M3.

Looks more fun than a real DB5 though biggrin

Attended the Bond premiere last night and the DB5 driver certainly earned his bag of chips.
Very impressive !

I liked Stroll’s Borat impression.

Sounds imense! I used to live 500 yards from the factory but moved now. Any idea why BMW engine? would of thought their tie ups with Mercedes and AMG would of spawned a AMG engine into it.

Mercedes only do a single straight six now and it's turbo charged, maybe it's too big for the DB5.

Think that's raised in an interview I've seen ....apologies, no idea where now. Think it was convenience & suitability for the job in hand, nice torquey lump. Iirc? The rest was too. It's just a stunt car so brand loyalty won't rule over practicality.
I'm still impressed with that doughnut laugh

Film-makers do some very wierd things with cars, especially when something needs to be bodged-up in the middle of filming. They wouldn’t want a genuine DB5 they had to treat carefully, for anything except slow closeup shots.

Presumably they looked at drift cars with the right wheelbase, and went from there with a custom body and DB5 wheels. Probably made two or three examples, in case they had a problem.

Would love to see a genuine DB5 with a prominent hydraulic handbrake fitted though! smile

It would have to be Chrome with a fly off latch lever coming through the floor on the right of the drivers seat though biggrin

Cheap, readily available, and just the right size and performance for their needs. Who else makes a high performance NA I6 engine with a manual gearbox, and RWD with LSD? It wouldn't be quite the same with an AMG V8 and autobox.

I don't think Aston have ever officially announced or discussed it being a BMW engine, but it's just obvious from the specs they gave.

I suppose it's cheap in the Aston DB scheme of things!

But the S54 has to be one of the ultimate N/A straight 6 petrol engines, and with a manual gearbox, RWD and an LSD it's just fantastic.

Although I'm probably biased as a Z4M Coupe owner. laugh

That, along with the same era V8 in the M3 which was equally stunning - a silky smooth V8 zipping along at 8,400rpm!

Before being forced to add turbo charging, the final generation of their N/A engines were just superb - an excellent substitute in the "DB5".

This just popped up from some obscure “news” feed for me.

I think it’s nonsense.

Me too. I came straight here to see if it was true - lol

I’ve warmed to Seb over the years, so I’m glad he’s still pedalling.
