Generally drivers aren't following someone who is going to cut it so fine for the chequered flag that they won't get to start their own laps. If he wanted them to stay behind he should have made sure he was crossing the line with enough time to spare for the following cars to get a lap in as well.
Exactly - I suspect he was trying to be last over the line even if it did wreck things for those behind him. But they decided to get in front of him and he missed his chance - good!

I liked him for the first year or two, but he has become so arrogant I've really gone off him.

I can see why Danny Ric wanted to move!

He carved past the two Renaults in sector 2 on the out lap then slowed down to get a gap behind CLC.

Then moans that people go past him.

He has no point, he was too slow to make it across the line in time so Vettel went round him and quite rightly.

Great start to the season for max this year. Say what you want about him.....To be as high as 3rd and now sitting 4th in championship shows how good he really is. Seems to have calmed and matured this year.

Too early to say me thinks... he's not having to fend off his team mate or had a proper tussle with anyone wanting to take a place off him yet. Yes, he's been pretty quiet but he's volatile... The real Max isn't too far from the surface IMO. The boy has talent though.

Yep performance wise I'm 100% convinced

I'm not convinced that he's no longer an arrogant pig dog though. He could learn a thing or two from Charles Leclerc on how to win friends and influence people.

In my view, with Vettel having matured and relaxed, Verstappen has taken the mantle of pantomime villain.

I've never been quite convinced by Max. There's never been any doubt he's got raw talent but I'm not 100% sure he's got the right team and guidance around him to make him a "Great". Motorsport and F1 has a long history of great talents that never quite delivered and in the modern era with all the hype that surrounds them they're not given the time to develop.

Now Max has lost his USP of the exciting new talent. I think Charles Leclerc has taken that mantel with style. He seems to know when things don't go right if it's his fault and is (to?) willing to accept his errors. At Ferrari that's a real plus. Ferrari have never taken well to anyone who even hinted it was Ferrari's fault. He seems very subtly to be able to make Seb doubt himself. Let's hope this one is the Real Deal

Indeed - but thankfully their still a few 'individuals' on the grid - and F1 needs that as much as any other quick 'fix' to make the sport interesting.

Off topic - but I really enjoyed the recent Sky interview with Kimi & Giovinazzi driving round town in an Alfa - Kimi looked liked he was on a lads holiday!

I don't necessarily disagree with any of this. The only problem is that Lewis has been very friendly and supportive of max over the years, so he at least sees qualities in max that he's happy to compliment in public.

I think max is a genuine, thoroughbred racer. He is on the cusp of maturing as much as he ever will, but I don't think he'll ever be able to control how he shows his emotions any more than he will ever stop taking chances on track. Definitely shades of senna in that boy!

Pace has always been there, always excellent on the tyres, opportunistic... however until 2018 quite crashy and very questionable defensive moves.

I am happy to cut Max a lot of slack. He is now 21 with about 4.5 years of F1 experience. By way of contrast Lewis was 22 when he first drove for McLaren and Lewis also seemed incredibly young, at that time.

If you know any Dutch people, his acertiveness (cockiness) is a common national trait. Ask a simple question and you will get a reply like you have just stepped from the swamp.

He is still learning, and this year has seemed more mature. Scoring good points is now OK whereas previously, if there was a car in front, it just had to be passed, at any cost. His Karting days are now well being him. That may have been helped by not being pressured by Gasley, whereas Danny Ricc often put him under pressure.

Charles LeClerc natural style also impresses, so when Lewis decides to quit F1 and pass on the mantle, we can be certain that there will be superb competition to grasp it.

I quite like working with the Dutch. They are like Yorkshiremen on steroids. You know where you stand, they are direct and it isn't personal... and you can go for a beer afterwards.

A Yorkshire man on Steroids would not pay his round.

The Dutch will have already got one in for you, when you arrive. beer

Nice clean racing here from Max (lost a place) but no contact, and left room for Perez, got the place back later..

This is the Max we need to see more of.

No not this.

Lewis is a little diva, actor and person with a lot of tattoo's and bling. bhing and moaning is his trade when things don't go his way. Especially in the Rosberg years. He's a bit annoying, over the top (best crowd in the world every race is somewhat unbelievable) a bit overpayed, a bit too much hey look at me I'm pretending to be a rapper/singer/superstar kind of person. He's awkward at times (or more than at times). His Senna idolatry doesn't come accross very sincere. His instagram posts seem to revolve about him either sitting on things very expensive (like private jets) while looking smug into nowhere or being in places that his profession doesn't want him to be while pretending to be a superstar. And he seems to be very much a loner.

LH seems to be a bit of a fony weirdo. Maybe he is.

Max is just a very talented, spotty and very determined young driver. Arrogant probably, but you get the impression you pretty much get what see and hear. Unlike LH.

Shame it's the Mercedes F1 car which is so dominant otherwise he'd be the youngest F1 WC by now.
