I also predict both McLarens to make it into Q3. One of them to score at least one point.
Stroll will out shine Massa.
Palmer will impress.

Seriously, I hear Brundle won't be there. Still not well. Who'll be Crofty's intelligent and calmer wing-man?

That doesn't sound good. I thought it was just a stomach bug.

Is anybody else hoping for a strong performance from Ferrari this weekend? I know we all want Lewis to go and win the championship but I have a feeling that if Merc finish 1-2 on Sunday it will be a sign of what to expect for the 2nd half of the season. Mercedes seem to developing the car at a faster rate than Ferrari at the moment..

Qualifying: This is one of a few tracks where I think Ferrari will just about have enough of a good car to negate Mercedes Quali mode map but it'll be super close.

I don't care who wins the championship as long as they have to fight tooth and nail for it and we get to enjoy watching it. Another Mercedes stroll for the second half of the season won't be good.

I presume Di-Resta again?

Was hoping C4 might have this one but they dont.

I'll be watching this one on NowTV. Is that right - di Resta is Sky's reserve commentator? Ant Davidson would be a much better choice.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, OP.

I would be surprised to see anything other than a silver car on pole. I will keep an eye on the Mercedes cars' race pace though, as they seemed to have made a big step there last time out.

My prediction is pole in the low 1:17s. Ferrari, 3 tenths off.

I don't know if it's my mind playing tricks, but I have a feeling that Ferrari's competitiveness over the weekend is reduced the more unbalanced the minimum starting tyre pressures from Pirelli front to rear. It's not a positive correlation, but there is a tendency.

At Silverstone, there was a big difference between front to rear pressures. It's not unusual for Pirelli to bump up the pressures to manage the loads on the different axles where they think most of the demands will be, but it's certainly interesting. Ferrari were pretty competitive at Spain where the difference was similarly big.

For this race, the pressures are 18.5 psi at the front and 17.5 psi rear. This is the closest the front and rear pressures have been since Monaco. A Ferrari 1-2 then?

Joking aside, I don't believe this race is a must win for Ferrari/Vettel as the media is drumming it up, but Ferrari wouldn't want to be left for dead in the race.

Who will win this race and bear the Curse of the Hungaroring?

For the last 12 years, the driver winning this GP was either an outside bet for the WDC or has never went on to win the title that year.

Dr Z - Your analysis is always that little bit deeper than most (no disrespect to other posters) and I have to re read your post a couple of times to pick up everything.

I have mentioned it before but you should got to Sky F1 (or Ch4 for balance) and tout your services.

Other than that I heard today an F1 team is looking for a data scientist, is that your skill set for your day job?

I agree that the Mercs will have a strong weekend for the pole and podium.

I'd want Lewis to win this one just so as to equal the finger with 4 WDC then next season it's game on, it's also nice that well have a 'BRITISH' driver that holds records for some time to come

I can't see Lewis not winning this, it's one of his very strong circuits.

Thanks for the kind words.

My skill set does overlap with data scientists, although not to the extent of the 'proper' data scientists. I'm in the natural sciences where things are getting big data heavy, so I'm learning to do what the real data people get up to now.

It's good to know that if I fail to make myself useful in my chosen field (a distinct possibility), I have options. biggrin

A lap record from 2004. Well that should not last this year with the new tyres and downforce.

Hoping for a great race

Well you have a very good CV (just tell them to search on here).

When my colleague informed me of the role he was working this morning - I thought of you.

3/10s! That's not good news (I know it's a forecast) for a circuit some might have thought was playing towards Ferrari strengths.

Whomever or whatever your chosen one is, that's not going to make for an interesting race.

In the nicest possible way, I hope you are wrong.

I'd like Bottas to win the WDC, I think he has been the most consistent driver so far this season, if not the fastest. Which country they come from makes no difference to me.
I'm firmly in the Bottas camp (to the point where I've given up listening to the BBC F1 podcast as Andrew Benson and Jack Nicholls seem to take pleasure in beating up on him for not being as good as Lewis rolleyes ), but realistically I think it'll come down to between him and Lewis in Abu Dhabi and Lewis will take it.

For this weekend, I reckon Red Bull are in with a shout and both could be in contention for a podium. Would like to see Palmer get some points, Kvyat to have a clean weekend and Econ to finish in the top 5.

Yea I'm an underdog kinda guy hehe

I see Brundle is missing this one as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he's had another heart attack. Last year he said he'd had a knee op to cover up missing Canada.
