I see Brundle is missing this one as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he's had another heart attack. Last year he said he'd had a knee op to cover up missing Canada.
Most of the papers said he had a Heart Attack in Spain, had a procedure and missed Canada Daily Mail (apologies for quoting) whilst reporting he was missing Hungary because of Stomach virus.I think this is a big one for Ferrari... if they don't do well at a track that should suit them then they are in big trouble. I also wonder if they are going to regret bringing so many of the red super soft tyres after what happened at Silverstone (despite Pirelli trying to blame anything but the tyre for the failures).

yes, almost make or break for the Reds. Hopefully Vettel will be on a charge.NM62 said:

Fair enough. I must've missed that at the time. That must have been one dodgy takeaway though!NM62 said:
Well you have a very good CV (just tell them to search on here).
When my colleague informed me of the role he was working this morning - I thought of you.

My prediction is pole in the low 1:17s. Ferrari, 3 tenths off.
3/10s! That's not good news (I know it's a forecast) for a circuit some might have thought was playing towards Ferrari strengths.Whomever or whatever your chosen one is, that's not going to make for an interesting race.
In the nicest possible way, I hope you are wrong.
I don't see anything that would particularly suit the Ferraris around here, given that in the immediately previous races the Mercedes was able to look after the tyres equally good, if not better. If Merc struggle to dial their car in like in Monaco, then yes, it could be favourable for Ferrari.
As far as I can see, the Mercedes qualifying advantage remains, but now they seem to be able run more race laps in a high power mode too.
On another note, I'm doubtful about anything other than a 1-stop given how well the super softs lasted in Silverstone which could make the race pretty boring once everything had settled down after the early laps. Hoping that the high track temps, with the still fairly new surface and the amount of corners with little respite, will push the strategy to 2-stops which would make it more fun at the front.
I don't see these cars touching the 2004 lap record though, especially if the front runners go for a 1-stop.

Yep. I also think this race might have big implications for silly season as well... it appears Vettel is holding out on signing a new deal with Ferrari but it is rapidly approaching the time he will have to make a decision one way or another..... A weak result just before the summer break might swing his mind one way or another or even force Ferrari to give him the 1 year deal he apparently desires, rather than the 3 years they want. And of course if Vettel does flounce off to Mercedes the chances are Raikkonen will be leaving too, which then opens up the whole mid field for a big reshuffle.
Plus even if none of the above applies there is still a chance that Ferrari go into an "Italian" management meltdown phase during the summer break, should this weekend go as badly as Silverstone did. They badly need to demonstrate they are keeping up with the development race.

I thought this was a really good article talking about the 2 main rivals and the pros and cons of their cars and the impact that the rule changes have had (particularly Ferrari and the tyres at the last race).

For this weekend, I reckon Red Bull are in with a shout and both could be in contention for a podium. Would like to see Palmer get some points, Kvyat to have a clean weekend and Econ to finish in the top 5.
Yea I'm an underdog kinda guy
Red Bull on the podium. Easy to see. I can actually see Red Bull beating Ferrari in a straight fight. I really think the Ferrari is going backwards relative to the other frontrunners.Yea I'm an underdog kinda guy
Palmer for points. Well, yeh. Good luck with that. He chucked it off from the points last year, if I remember correctly.
Kyvat to have a clean weekend. Hmm. When was the last one of those.
Econ (Ocon?) in top 5. Possible, although the top 6 is made up with Merc, Red Bull and Ferrari. Anyone else will need them to drop out here.
I would go HAM, VET, BOT. VER will have mechanical failure. RAI will qualify well and then never get going in the race. RIC to finish P4.

Mercedes bore fest again - off to watch proper racing at Silverstone this weekend.
Why do people join threads on a specific race to pre-suppose an outcome and then say they aren't watching anyway? It's most odd.Doesn't look like banning their front wing has held them back does it, having said that its not a power circuit, it's max downforce which in theory should suit the redbull anyway without any upgrades really, same goes for Ferrari, let's see how Merc counter it on a track where engine modes shouldn't show much difference, it's all down to aero, if Merc pull something out the bag here then it's game on for the rest of the season and a title swing towards Lewis
