Red Bull - Aston Martin
Discussion
Cosworth have three F1 spec engines on their books but don't have any hybrid tech to add to their engines, Ilmor also have engines that could be used in F1 so once Liberty decide on an engine formula there are engine builders (Zytek Ilmoor Cosworth etc) who can provide engines & that's before you include car makers.
It's not as massive an undertaking if you don't have to have all the Hybrid technology.

Are Infinity still part of the RB team, maybe they/Nissan have something to do with it?
Infiniti is to Nissan what Lexus is Toyota... Renault own something like 45% of Nissan... Infiniti was the name on Renaults Red Bull's engines to promote that brand and raise it's European profile. I don't see Renault dumping Red Bull and then their engines finding their way back their in 2019. I would hate to see them get lucky with Honda coming good purely because of all the whining Horner when suddenly they weren't the leading team anymore... very little praise Renault in the 4yrs they were winning everything.

Red Bull will be announcing a tie up with Aston Martin in the next few weeks with speculation that it will be a rebadged Cosworth engine for 2021.
Or for a hell mary bit of speculation Williams loses it's Mercedes Power supply which then goes to Red Bull as a rebadged Aston Martin engine.
AMG engines to Red Bull.... different badge on it or not, Mercedes won't sign that off.Or for a hell mary bit of speculation Williams loses it's Mercedes Power supply which then goes to Red Bull as a rebadged Aston Martin engine.

Autosport reporting that it will be a title sponsor deal, as part of the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar collaboration. So Aston Martin logos on the car, as it was with Infiniti.

Do we really think any money is changing hands for this sponsorship? It certainly won't be flowing from Aston's direction; 2016 was a rough year for them and 2017 is very much a transition year. What are the chances of them having reverse engineered the Renault engine and then having a company such as Cosworth or Mecachrome tweak/manufacture them for them with an Aston Badge?
Given just how big the legal bh-slap that would follow such an action - slimmer than a slim thing after it's been run over by a road roller.HighwayStar said:

I think Aston is a temporary solution and one to see them through top the next regs. They don't have need, money or time to build an engine for these regs. I personally doubt they will have enough for the next regs, unless someone like Cosworth build a generic engine and allow variants.
I think Porsche will buy them once the engine regs have been finalised, if the engines are affordable.

Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing have further strengthened their Innovation Partnership with the announcement that the Formula One team will compete as ‘Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’ from 2018.
The successful partnership, that has already produced the sold-out Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, will yield future products and an exciting new Advanced Performance Centre that will open on the Red Bull Racing campus in Milton Keynes later this year. The British luxury carmaker will also evaluate the opportunity to be involved in the team’s power unit from 2021 after being asked by the FIA to join discussions on future engines for F1.
The new Advanced Performance Centre, which will create 110 new jobs, will also house Aston Martin’s second dedicated design centre and engineering personnel who will be working on future sports cars. The new centre will allow a closer working relationship between the two leading brands in their respective fields which will see the adoption of both F1 and road car technology.
Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull Racing said: “Our Innovation Partnership with Aston Martin has been a pioneering project from day one. Having conceived and created the remarkably successful Valkyrie together in 2016, we extended our relationship this year and are now delighted to further strengthen the Partnership and see the team competing as Aston Martin Red Bull Racing in 2018. In addition, more than 100 Aston Martin staff will service the new Advanced Performance Centre on our campus here in Milton Keynes and it will allow us to collaborate further with Aston Martin on special, equally innovative, new projects.”

I imagine if the 2021 engine regs are favourable then DM has managed to sell his team.
The question is to whom and how? Aston Martin cannot afford to buy an F1 team outright. It is feasible they could reach an agreement whereby the team is 'given' to Aston Martin in exchange for 'free' sponsorship on the car over a number of years as Red Bull softly exit F1. More likely that Horner/Newey buy the team with investors providing the money, with Aston Martin as the engine supplier from 2021.

I doubt Aston would find it too difficult to secure the necessary funding (subject to engine regs, the current cost of which prevent them from entering).More likely that Horner/Newey buy the team with investors providing the money, with Aston Martin as the engine supplier from 2021.

That is exactly what is happening here, except for the fact that the accountants will ensure that it is Red Bull who are essentially paying Aston for sponsoring the team. But I'm not so sure Aston will bankroll an engine development in F1.More likely that Horner/Newey buy the team with investors providing the money, with Aston Martin as the engine supplier from 2021.
