Event timings, steward decisions, technical reports and laptimes for the weekend will appear here:

The tyre choices:

Circuit/tyre info from Pirelli:

  • Turn 1 forms a unique challenge: an uphill then downhill hairpin, where braking is hard to judge.
  • There are several overtaking opportunities, which means that race strategy options to gain track position are quite open. (yeah right!)
  • There are three long straights, which have the effect of cooling the tyres on each lap.
  • Weather is quite variable in Texas, ranging from bright sunshine to heavy rain.

2016 Grand Prix

Hamilton took pole position from Rosberg.

Won the start, and won the race

Sainz will be driving for the works Renault team in place of Palmer, while Kvyat returns to take his place at Toro Rosso. Gasly off to finish his Super Formula campaign at Japan, with the debut of Le Mans winner Brendon Hartley subbing for him.

I'd like to see Kimi do well. Maybe the podium, perhaps even a win.

This has all been very interesting hasn't it? I'm glad Red Bull insisted that Gasly finished his Super Formula season, He could well win it and it’d be a shame to see him throw away a title in his desperation to get into F1 ASAP. Roll on Saintz vs. Hulkenberg. Don’t know much about Hartley but it’ll be interesting to see how effectively he can transition to F1 over the weekend. If this is Liberty Media trying to court motor racing fans from other disciplines and get them hooked on F1 then long may it continue- Hulk to Le Mans, Alonso to Indy, Hartley to F1, all great talking points, and none have been detrimental to F1.

It's great seeing drivers racing in different classes, should happen more often.

I reckon there is more chance of Hartley getting the triple crown than Alonso now.

Isn't Hartley in this weekend replacing Gasly?

Who is actually subbing for whom? Is Kvyat deemed to be back in his original car, so Hartley is actually taking over Sainz's car, or is Harltey subbing for Gasley, who in turn replaced Kvyat, and Kvyat is coming back in Sainz's car? How this is determined will surely have an effect on tyre allocations and PU component usage?

Classic! I don't have a clue, but I'm guessing Kvyat will take over Sainz's PU allocation, with Hartley taking over Gasly's PU allocation, which was originally Kvyat's!

The current PU allocation is about the same for both TR cars, but Kvyat went though engines quite quickly on to his 5th components, with Sainz taking penalties to take his fifth last race. So, Kvyat should now have a fresher engine to play with?!

No split in the tyre allocations between the drivers, so that should be easy.

Yeah, some of the F1 drivers should.do some F2 races. What could possibly go wrong?

There was a race of team managers, back in the 70s, all in Escorts, possibly Mexicos. It was at Brands. It was fabulous.

From memory, Chapman led to the last lap but didn't make it through Clearways.

Bring that one back. It was all the crowd were talking about.

Or, as it is over 40 years ago, I could have got it all mixed up in my mind.

EDITED TO ADD:

I've found it on YouTube. Funny, I thought it was at a GP. Also, the race isn't quite what I remembered. I won't spoil it for you:

Well worth ten minutes of your life. The commentary is 'sparkling' as well, with the dry wit of G. Hill.

Also, you can see me in the crowd at Clearways.

I videotaped it off BBC in the early 1980s. They showed it as part of "Great Sporting Moments". I think it was at the meeting that claimed the life of Jo Siffert.

I really enjoyed seeing the amount of slip angle the drivers were using with those tyres, makes me wish the current cars weren't so heavy and downforce-laden.

The engine noise though? Meh.

With any luck it will be less exciting for me than last year as I had a heart attack on the Sunday morning and ended up watching it on my mobile in hospital!!
