Its logo should look like this - 'Grand Prix Racing' . Formula One is the name for the type of car which contests Grands Prix.

Worst 'I was there at the beginning' post ever wink

It's also the Formula One World Championship...not the Grand Prix World Championship

"I'm following the Grand Prix racing series"
Said no one, ever.

"I follow F1"
Said a few more people?

My opinion too - but they don't "own" the expression "Grand Prix" so can't licence (i.e. monetise) it.

Bernie tried to claim that "Grand Prix" should be licenced to him but the courts threw his claim out on the basis that the term "Grand Prix" is used for all sorts of competitive events beyond motor sport - such as song contests and show jumping.

A hell of a lot of people referred to Grand Prix racing , albeit a fraction of the number of parvenu oiks who talk about F1 .

A1GP used the Grand Prix moniker and during their first season, even used the phrase "Grand Prix Racing is Back" when promoting events.

Hickstead Grand Prix (Horses)

Montreux Grand Prix (Classic Cars)

Bristol Grand Prix (Cycle Race)

Grand Prix is a very common term used for many events beyond F1 motor racing.

Some more clever logos.

The problem with the old one was aparently to do with negative space on the 1 and it was hard to embroider.

Liberty want a new start, I think it’s a good idea to update the branding as part of their break from the Bernie era.

One obvious negative of this logo is it doesn't work well when it's small. This is very noticeable on their Twitter profile for example.

Looks a bit of a mess, and slightly amateur.....

Why they needed to change it when the sport has other pressing issues is madness. But, as ever, F1 is in a world of it's own.....
