Exactly. I can't quite believe just how useless the picture is and how the hell this got approved. I mean, the in car footage makes a massive difference to the TV viewer.

You really couldn't make it up, could you. This is of course the unintended consequence of a lot of regulation pulling in different directions. Even the testing restrictions/ban has a part to play as if more miles had been put on the cars with the halos fitted someone might have thought about the issue sooner than the first race of the season.

Would it really be that difficult to suggest/require a new camera position that worked?

Camera in the halo may weaken it's structure potentially? As it'll be manufactured as one solid piece?

this is the first year in about 100 that I'm genuinely not excited to watch the first race.

Normally i'd be all over it for the last month. All the releases of the new cars, the tech improvements, who is driving what.

I literally haven't even look - I didn't even know it was on until something popped up on Divorcebook.

I hate the halo.

I'm actually just a bit sad the once wonderfully beautiful cars.........now look like they do.

There was mention on Sky during their testing coverage that another factor that hadn't been considered is the driver's line of sight to the start light gantry.

I wonder if they've 'remembered' to fix that!

Yes they fixed that now.

They mentioned during FP1 and FP2 that there was an additional set of lowered start lights to allow all drivers to see as some drivers were obstructed by the Halo (depending on where you were on the grid).

At the end of each session a lot of, if not all, drivers did a test start from the grid to check out the additional lights.

Tbh this has actually really pissed me off.

All that time debating how they would go about protecting the driver, testing the systems and the long lead up to the championship and no one thought, "hey what about the camera?". Either they've got some fkin' retards that never thought of it or they arrogantly thought, who cares ignore them (them being the fans). With every backward step F1 has taken lately, I suspect it to be the latter.

I imagine the halo will cause a problem at Eau Rouge where the driver is approaching or at the bottom of the dip, and the thick centre part of the halo will be in his eyeline.

The reality is their view will be that this screw up doesn't affect them.

Why do I say this? As far as I am aware, all the major TV markets are tied up in multi-year deals for coverage. If this goes on for 3 races until they get their act together and get it resolved then it really isn't going to affect anything for them.

I'm sure there's footage of the 'nosecam' that IndyCar have introduced this year. Gives you a great sense of the speed, F1 could look at that.

A couple of the cars appear to have a camera which means you can see perhaps 50% more..... FP2 had a couple of onboards where I actually saw a corner as the car approached. Not sure why all teams can't have this.

I've absolutely no idea, but from what I saw it looked to be a lot lower than the F1 nose cams.
