That was quite an interesting and candid interview - What was the bit about the paddock turning 'Anti-Toto' all about?.. seemed a bit of an odd thing to say, is he just feeling the pressure a bit?
There’s been a couple of times this season where pressure seems to have come to the surface, accusing Ferrari of taking their cars off on purpose being one of those times, it does seem he’s not quite as cool and collected as first thought now there’s a proper battle going on and Mercedes arguably don’t have the best car

So he can come back and be solid #2 behind LeClerc should they get a Ham/Alonso situation?

I think it's clear that Kimi likes racing for its own sake unlike maybe Hill or Rosberg who seemed to lose their joy. So if Kimi can stay fast enough he'd be a great asset to many a team. It's probably more fun being away from the pressure cooker at Ferrari, too. If all you wanted to do was go racing every weekend, you could do a lot worse than mid-level F1, which is where most of the racing seems to happen these days.
the thing is, sauber have in a way two pay drivers when you think about it, marcus brings big $ and leclerc will have ferrari incentivising sauber in some way at least, probably for more than any wage he might be drawing. Now kimi is a solid 10 figure salary guy, I doubt sauber are paying that and I doubt Kimi is racing for shirt buttons - this is the guy who took a sabbatical to see out his contract when fez employed Alonso giving them 3 contracted drivers, rather than take a pay cut (still taking substantial fez money) and race for another team. So I find this "can't-not-race" attitude a little hard to digest.

Did anyone else see Ted's chat with Joe Saward on Sky.

Ted - "so Ocon won't have a drive next year"
Joe - "No, not to start with anyway", refused to be drawn on saying anymore.

And Toto now saying he wouldn’t release Ocon if it meant he could be in the grid next year because he’s going to be a future champion. Have an option on his contract then rather than stopping him driving another car completely!
What team would take a driver on knowing that if he improved and did well they would then lose him?!??! They want the option themselves so if he does well they keep a consistent team etc....

Be a shame for Ocon

essentially merc kept him in F1 last year instead of Wehrlein and now its likely to be completely swapped as merc drop Wehrlein.

That being said i don't think either of them is a LeClerc so maybe merc should let them go and make sure Russell gets a seat.

Past the top 3 there isn’t a team who’ve had a consistent lineup in F1 for years so any of them using that reason are talking st, the closest we’ve had are Force India who’ve managed to keep the same drivers for 2 seasons and they’re changing next year.

Even at the top there isn't always that much stability. What's the most consecutive seasons that any team has kept the same two driver line-up?

I might try and work it out for myself if my afternoon work meeting is as dull as I suspect it will be ...

I'm pretty sure it's Hakkinen and Coulthard 1996 til 2001

this is the problem, 4 years at each top team as a pairing is probably the average

Each top 3 junior academy probably has a driver in F2 every year so that's 4 drivers waiting for 1 seat at the top table to open up every 4 years, 1 of those drivers might get into another drive. In the last 9 years only Red bull have promoted their own junior to the top drive(SV/DR/MV/DK)

Teams need to be RBR style cut throat in these academies and drop drivers who are unlikely to get to their own top drive. That would create a free market of drivers with some experience for the independent teams to look at. At current any driver who might make f1 is someone's junior and its closing doors not opening them.

Nooone is retiring from F1 so its only getting worse

Do Alesi and Burger count as a consistent lineup? They did swap teams but both swapped at the same time hehe
