Max V is an interesting case study - both parents clearly "wired for racing" - I wonder if it is more about reaction times and something about a lack of self preservation that provides that final 1% - that may be genetic?
I think it's more to do with having both parents pushing him into it from the age of 2, and being in a household totally immersed in racing.

There may be some hereditary traits, perhaps hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness, but I I believe for something like driving that is a very modern pastime it must be mostly nurture rather than nature.

Don't the Verstappens also own a kart track, so Max was probably in a kart before he could walk.

Verstappen doesn't have a 7 time world champion as a father. Expectation levels are polar opposites. If he jumps straight from F3 to F1 he will be scrutinised to hell.

He has time so why not grab as much experience as he can before making that final step? I think he's doing the correct thing.
Exactly this, every time he gets into a car there's pressure on him that just isn't there for anyone else he's up against.

If he gets a GP2 drive next year and performs well there's going to be offers coming purely for the marketing of it for any F1 team who'd have him. If he was to choose a second year in GP2 and to win the series if he didn't manage it in the first year just isn't a bad move imo.

You mean like the Hamilton domination we have now, Vettel Domination before that.
Schumacher domination was more prolonged and more extreme. Five on the bounce while Vettel and Hamilton only have four each with (in Hamilton's case) gaps between them. Plus both Vettel and Hamilton had to fight to the last couple of races for most of theirs while Schumacher wrapped up several of his by mid-season.

Shame they don't know their facts - Christian Fittipaldi is the nephew of Emerson, son of Wilson.

Some suggestions that Alex Albon is the front runner for the second Torro Rosso seat. That would make 3.5 British drivers - he races under the Thai flag but was born in London to a British father.

What, was Jos Verstappen's spatial awareness also poor? rotate

Less said about his mother the better though.

He's already signed up with e.Dams Nissan in Formula E, he's been testing at Valencia, not sure how concrete the agreement is if F1 come calling.

Has he done any running? On the first day he didn't go out - no work on his car it just sat in the garage all day.

He's everywhere at the moment!

Williams development driver
Ginetta LMP (well if they had the funds to run)
Strakka AMG GT

Makes sense as a repalcement for Albon, hes a competitive driver with experience and hes part of the DAMS family.

Joe Saward mentions the latest paddock rumour that Ocon is favourite for the remaining Williams seat, possibly with BWT sponsorship moving from FI to Williams. It would make sense that Stroll and partners would want to promote some of their own brands on their car, and Williams need a new main sponsor next year to replace Martini.

That is interesting, especially after the Rich Energy rumors.

Would be even more interesting to see what Ocon can get out of that Williams too.

Wolff has already said that Ocon is in a good seat for 2020 though so would Williams want Ocon for just one season unless someone is paying them a packet?

Engine deal / Driver swap? Bottas back to Williams / Ocon into the Merc - nice for all concerned.

I'm not sure it'd be nice for Bottas. hehe
