Thinking of doing Spa this year. Have searched around and it seems that traffic is a major issue on the approach roads so it might spoil a hotel approach, if I could get one for a reasonable price. Camping reviews are all over the place, but I want to walk to the track within 20-30 mins, have proper facilities, not too bothered about food or bars, and don't mind good spirited fun loving people, up to a point, but want to get some peaceful sleep too.. So

1. Is the traffic as bad as some say or have people got good experience in staying in hotels 20-30 mins away from the track?
2. Are there recommended sites for the more restrained amongst us?. Happy to take my own stuff or Pre-erected is good too. Anyone used Festitent? They appear to have a good offering?

Thanks and sorry if it's all been said before... I did search.

I stayed here in a static Caravan

Mind you, it was a few years back.

It was noisy - lots of pissed up Germans but they quietened down for proper nighttime.

The traffic into the circuit was fine with the exception of race day. Mind you, even that was better than anything at Silverstone.

We've camped at Spa for the last 2 years and....

1. The traffic really is that bad, in 2016 it was virtually stationary until around 9 o'clock at night, it wasn't quite as bad last year as they were a bit more organised all round but still wasn't good.

2, Both years we stayed at CampingF1 and I couldn't fault them. Plenty of showers with good hot water whenever you used them. Plenty of toilets which were pretty clean to be fair. Large marquee serving good food, large bar (both at decent prices) and evening entertainment, live music and we had Martin Brundle doing a talk/q&a session both years. It's pretty quiet after midnight too.

Another vote for Camping f1. Not the cheapest option, but very good, well organised, easy trip to the nearest supermarket for supplies. As said above the food was good, but it could be very busy so a bit of a wait. Hot showers, yeh! The walk up the hill to circuit is good exercise to work off the Belgian beer! Be warned, with the walk up the hill, if you want to be down at La Source it is a lot of walking from The gate at Les Combes. We walked the whole circuit, but we're stupid.

Thanks for the suggestions. CampingF1 looks good though I found some negative reviews from a few years ago, so I'll take those as being out of date.

One more other thing I'd add is that if you're thinking of doing the Thursday pit walk, they only have the La Source entrance open. On that day and that day only, don't bother walking, it's no problem taking the car and there's plenty of parking (disclaimer, that's what it was like in 2017). Don't try it any other day though.

Camped last year and arrived around midnight on the Thursday night, very little traffic. If you don't mind pitching under headlight illumination maybe consider that!
