Just back in from Monaco (staying a little way down the coast). Cars sound fantastic this year, just the right level of loudness without being uncomfortable.

Casino Sq wasn't the best place to watch as you only get a brief glimpse of them going past-impressive when they're on it mind you between the barriers-looking forward to swimming pool/pits tomorrow more.

All very easy to do, the train from villafranche is only about 20 mins, no one pays and was reasonably quiet at around 10:30am and coming home a little later.

Can you provide a source for that wisdom? I'm not interested in twitter links BTW.
Look, it's quite simple. If you need it explaining it to you then you're part of the problem.
Is there a problem though ?
Yes, unless you also would like to see grid guys.

All the Max whinging is a bit OTT, imo. He's a good racer and fun to watch.
No, he's a recalcitrant 14 yr old.

Surely if you were coming in for flaccids you'd have the semis on.

I’m confused
There are no ‘grid girls’ anymore even at Monaco.
There are TAG advertising models... female AND male.

Now unless we ban all media filming any women in case they happen across an attractive one... and accidentally objectify her... I’m not sure what else can it should be done.
Aside from powerful male types ‘using’ attractive female types which is wrong, we appear to be rapidly accelerating towards denying the obvious.

Also. Go Danny. Stick it to Crash Verstappen and all the others in THE F1 capital.
Cos Lew Ham and the rest have faster cars and they’ll like win the fast (dull) tracks. None of ‘em care about winning at Monaco. Nope.

So, what do we think Ricciardo's game plan will be for tomorrow?

Vet and Ham will fancy this now since Ric is without a wingman.

I don't fancy Ricciardo's job tomorrow if he manages to keep the lead out of the first corner.

However, Merc weren't sure of the hypers in Q2 and I think I saw the deg on Ferrari was a bit high too.

If it were me, I'd just go hell for leather at the start of the race, wait for the Ferrari/Merc tyres to drop off and cover them when they pit. Easier said than done. smile

I think it's going to be carnage on the first corner or so. Or, at least, breathtakingly exciting.

They say you can't win a race on the first corner, but you can certainly lose it. But Monaco is arguably the exception to that.

Depends if it's wet or not?

whatever plan you have you can't plan the safety cars - and if they are VSC's or the proper ones.

i think it might boil down to luck ie where you are on track when the safety car comes out.

I'd need some extra front flap if i was moving from the hard to the semi

Can anyone work out how close the Mercedes gamble on ultras in Q2 came to working? If they hadn't run the hypers would they have actually got through into Q3? I suspect not but I wondered how close it was.

Grid Girl thread is here for those desperately interested-

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I don't think Danny will be missing his wingman too much. If it was most other races with his pace advantage I'd expect him to just drive off and have a pole-> podium victory, but expect at least one safety car.

I suspect Max'll be able to make up a lot of places like he did in his memorable race in the TR, but I imagine others will be emboldened to keep their elbows out given his need for a good result.

SPOILER ALERT. SPOILER ALERT

2018 Monaco GP main events. . .

VerStrapOn into Grosjean into Magnussen first corner first lap.

After a dozen SC laps Ric gets jumped by Vettel & Hamilton on the restart.

Ric eventually retires his car after another Renault power unit issue.
(Punch up between A-meatball and Horner)

Other than this it’s just the usual parade of F1 cars.

From the BBC :

Asked whether he felt this error would finally drive it home to Verstappen that he needed to find a way to calm down, Horner said: "I hope so. I don't know what else will."
I seem to remember post-accident a race or two ago, someone asked Verstappen if he was going to change his approach and driving style.

His response was pretty much “Nope. My approach and driving style has got me to where I am today. Why would I change it because of a few incidents?”. Arrogance to the extreme I felt.

Other younger drivers in the past have seemed more circumspect about that.

I do think he really has been railroaded into F1 by his bell end dad far too early.

I guess it gives us excitement!

Anyway who had FP3?!

Edit: stevesingo - good job!! thumbup

I don't know why people are ever surprised at what happens with Max or expect him to ever change.

He's an arrogant ahole. His dad is an ahole too. Hopefully Max doesn't mirror all of his dad's other charming features though I expect the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree.

We got the usual hype early on about what a great and exciting talent he is but the reality of it is that just like many other middling talents he's fast but just doesn't know where to set the limit so he does stupid stuff. When he gets away with it great, but he often doesnt. So he burned bright early on but somehow I expect true success to elude him because that takes a bit more than a heavy foot and reckless bravery.

Hopefully he'll wise up before he does something to himself or someone else that can't be fixed, but I doubt he has the brains or the maturity to make that step in time.

I'd say he needs a slap or two to wake him up but every time I see his face it looks like he's just had one.

I think he's a good example of a lack of dicipline spoiling potential. If the FIA had come down on him when he was blocking Kimi at Spa, then he might have developed in a different direction.

Instead he's been taught that rules don't apply to him and he can do no wrong.

Grosjeans recent troubles are more puzzling to me though- he seemed to have got himself together and made a bold move leaving Lotus for Haas, now he seems a bit of a liability again.

Is it just the way form can leave you? Some guys get slow on an off day, others push too hard?

That’s what I was thinking, fortunately the Red Bull has a useful pace advantage over the Ferrari and Mercedes.... and seemed to circulate well on the hypers.

Proof that the grid girl ban from F1 is stupid.

There are plenty of woman who would kill to get attention.
So?

A girl flaunting what she's got is a world away from institutionalised "women are only good for looking pretty" which is what the whole Grid Girl thing is all about.
Anyone who thinks the grid girl ‘ban’* is about specific individuals, their rights or whatever you want to call it - has misunderstood the question.

(Ban is typical anti-pc hysterical language anyway - as can be seen by what tag heure and Monaco are doing.

They aren’t banned - they aren’t illegal - liberty have just decided that they don’t want to hire any themselves and that’s their policy

(Am I alone in think this whole thing about grid girls is silly - I barely noticed they were there, and to be honest I think anyone getting in so much of a lather about it that they feel the need to post gifs of random pretty girls is probably a bit too easily distracted by it all...maybe a shade backed up....
