Hi

I know there are a few discussions about this going around, but just want to understand what is actually happening in 2019?

Its on SKY of course, but is anybody else showing it, like C4 are this year? My Sky 'legacy' deal is up soon and I am seriously thinking about quitting them.

No races will be shown live on terrestrial TV from next year (edit: except the British GP which will be shown on an as yet unknown channel). There has been statements of highlights being shown after the race, but as of yet we don't know what this will entail, who the team will be, or which channel it will be on. At the moment, it's looking most likely that highlights will be on one of the free-to-air Sky owned channels on freeview, rather than something akin to what we have already with Channel 4, which would be a shame. Plenty of people are hoping that Sky may still outsource to a separate company, perhaps to the current channel 4 team, but as of yet there has been no detail on this.

I guess we won't hear any solid details until after this season.

Many thanks for that. I guess I shall hold fire until we know more!

It would therefore seem strange that you are looking on the F1 section of PH!

The British GP will still be live on a free terrestrial channel, if I remember correctly.

I shall miss Ch4s live and highlights show... I don't have Sky but my dad has. Sky's F1 offering is just so flat. I was quite surprised considering they have a dedicated F1 channel. I've never had Sky and don't particularly want it but... I get BT Sport and Broadband free. BT employee. With competition coming from Amazon and possibly Netflix and Facebook in the future Sky and BT have agreed to make the sports channels available on the others platforms from 2019 at 'favourable rates,' whatever that means. Prices won't be announced until early 2019... it's publically available news so not giving anything away. If I can have just the sports channels without the movies and other stuff at a decent price I might go that way... Otherwise I'll have to find a decent pub or not bother with F1.

Not the time to ditch it if you want to follow the sport IMO. I have managed to avoid getting Sky F1 for a few years by watching C4 and buying the occasional NowTV pass, but for next year I am going to have to consider getting Sky (which is a shame because I thought the C4 coverage was better in every way)

Other access mechanisms are available...

Yes I know.... But I get most of it free anyway, I work for BT. Not really stuff I want to be doing should it go sideways. I don't mind paying what I think is reasonable. I'd rather see movies in the cinema, people moan about the prices but if they actually bothered to go rather than using 'other access mechanisms' rather than expecting stuff for free, why should I pay, then it wouldn't be so....
Back on point... That's a specific rant rather than something like F1 which was always free to air. It is what it is now... If the price isn't right, there's other things.

FTFY - the biggest flaw in the pub plan, in my experience.

Funny isn't it, thanks to the methods I use to watch the various sessions of F1, I experience both commentary teams pretty often, I'd say the Sky team are far ahead of the C4 offering.... they're not bad in isolation I suppose but given the choice I'll take Sky every time.

I still think Sky have really missed a trick though calling the channel Sky Sports F1.... They should have called it Sky Motorsports and catered to the sport in general, does anyone actually watch the channel currently apart from for the practise sessions, quali and the race - they'd have much more ad revenue if there was fresh content of all types of motorsport I reckon.

Sky Go is available free to all Sky subscribers, and you can add multiple devices to a single Sky Go account...

BT Sport has a lot of motorsport... WRC, IndyCar, Blanchpain GT Endurance racing, Brit GT championship, Brit Rally Cross, DTM and MotoGP.
ITV Sport... Touring Cars, Brit Superbike?
Is there much left for a Sky Motorsports channel? They don't really have the money to throw around like they used to.

The old man's Sky is via Virgin Media, I'll have to see what their TV Go offering can do...

you can have 2 devices with virgin tv go or just use the sky sports app and sign in with your virgin details, there is a seperate link on the sky sign in page for virgin customers, IIRC you need to pair the device to the virgin box first then once done you can use it anywhere, i think that's how mine was (eldest son set it up for me) confused
if you try to watch sky f1 in the virgin app it just sends you to the sky app anyway so i don't bother with the virgin app just the sky f1 app.

Getting back into the sport again. Uncle Don Load will be very helpful next season.
