Hi

I'm going to be walking up Snowdon on 1 September with five of my friends. All of us are late 30s and reasonably fit, anyway, the walk side of things are sorted but we are just looking at where to stay.

We want to walk Snowdon saturday day and then looking to stay in either Llanberis, Betws-y-coed or Beddgelert. Which is best? We are traveling from Stoke so don't really want to be staying on the wrong side of Snowdon be we are looking for somewhere that is reasonable busy at night and we can have a nice meal/curry and go round some of the pubs.

Where do you recommend would be most suitable?

Thanks
Jonathan

In reponse to your brief - Llanberis

But you might also be interested in Pen Y Gwryd Hotel, which has zero other food options other than itself (which is just fine) but has great history.

If you need a curry - LLanberis

I would usually suggest Beddgelert as it is the most beautiful village and has great pubs and good eating places but it's quite a walk to even get to the foot of Snowdon unless you stay on the Snowden side but then its a walk into the village.

Rhyd Ddu is lovely but great for setting out from but limited eating and drinking.

Llanberis is very touristy but has its own Indian restaurant which isn't great but not bad.

Betws y Coed is quite a distance and is almost as bad as the Lake District for tourist tat.

You've left it a little late for booking accommodation but you may get lucky with a cancellation.

Thanks folks, we’ll probs drive to Snowdon so we don’t need to walk from where we are staying.

Whilst Beddgelert is the nicest place by far, on the basis of wating a proper curry, I've got to say, stay in Llanberis.

If you fancy a really nice home made chili, then pop into a place called Ty Moor in Rhyd Ddu. Fantastic dutch pancakes too.

Actually, you can stay there too. Certainly worth popping in.

Unless you want to go up and down different routes. We stayed in Llanberis and caught the bus to the bottom of the pig track, then walked back down the Llanberis pass to our B&B.
