F1 needs to offer financial incentives to non-manufactuers. The likes of Cosworth cannot currently enter to create greater diversity.
F1 has long been manufacturer-centric when it comes to engines.Whilst Cosworth started as an independent, it was ultimately when Ford began to bankroll them that started to produce consistently competitive engines with the DFV and its variants.
From memory, there's only been two, truly independent engine manufacturers since the 70s; Hart and Mechachrome, the latter of which was acquired by Renault, neither of which were particularly good.

We could include Lamborghini in the not-particularly-good category. Boutique manufacturer but sounded great though.

Mecachrome never made their own engines. They were always Renaults in disguise, similar to how Mugen were Honda engines with a different name when the manufacturer had officially withdrawn from F1 but their engines were still in use.Whilst Cosworth started as an independent, it was ultimately when Ford began to bankroll them that started to produce consistently competitive engines with the DFV and its variants.

The second one to mention with Hart is of course Judd.

I mean, this is going to be a very long conversation if we're going to list all existent companies which manufactured F1 engines 30+ years ago and explore why they haven't made an F1 PU for 30+ years and why they might not want to make an F1 PU now...
I take it you're new to Pistonheads!

Ilmor was another, that were partially acquired by Mercedes to form their current powertrains company. Whilst Cosworth started as an independent, it was ultimately when Ford began to bankroll them that started to produce consistently competitive engines with the DFV and its variants.

Judd will still make you a V10 to stick in that old F1 car you have lying in the back of your garage.

Allegedly costs around $100k, and needs a $30k rebuild every 3,000km.

This is the Lando Norris thread and only 1 person mentioned his win , before the conversation turned to some other nonsense
I thought it was a great drive , well done Lando
Yep, he was unstoppable, great weekend. He even added some spice early on by letting Max sit at the front for a bit.I thought it was a great drive , well done Lando
He's 'my' driver but I do wish he'd MTFU at starts. I don't mean just messing this one up, in so many of his starts further back he is almost guaranteed to lose places by backing out in the first few corners.

If F1 is serious about reducing costs, they can also be run on eFuel for green kudos. Probably get a bulk buying discount too.
Well done Norris.

Let's hope the Mclaren stays quick

His starts are a weakness, but I think that is also a McLaren weakness. Plus, I seem to remember Max had start problems too, until it was sorted (by Max or by RB?).
Glad we can agree on something ds. x
