Surprised that Lando isn’t even nominated for the BBC’s 2024 SPotY Award.

Yes, F1 may be seen as an elite money sport, but thought he (and McLaren) taking the fight to Max (and RedBull) would have justified his inclusion - and he does at least have ‘personality’.

He had a long shot at the title but unfortunately he messed it up.

I like Lando and he's arguably a good role model as a sportsman, he's certainly popular. But the bottom line is he failed at his title challenge due to making multiple mistakes in one race.

I'm sure in time he'll make a better fist of opportunities and maybe then the nation can celebrate him

I can sort of understand Lando's omission but I think it would be wrong if McLaren were overlooked for the nomination of team of the year.

That’s the right answer. He didn’t win the title, if he had win then he’d have been nominated, the nominees all won something significant this year, and the award almost always goes to an Olympian in Olympics years. The McLaren team definitely deserved consideration though.

Sorry, but just felt I had to respond.

In what way did Lando 'take the fight' to Max? I felt he specifically didn't take the fight to Max, despite having a car that would allow him to do so. All I seem to recall throughout the season is that the points gap just got bigger, even when Max had a car that allowed him to qualify 5th or whatever.

It would have been embarrassing to see Lando on SPOTY, he had a season to want to forget imo.

Quite possibly all made up, I saw a thing on Instagram about it then did a google search and saw all the chat about it but didnt bother clicking any links to get to official sources.
